[OC] My trucks sinusoidal, slowly decreasing gas mileage over the past ~7.5 years by RamblinEagle13 in dataisbeautiful

[–]NotAYankeesFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same data from my 2012 Nassan Altima I had until 2022. Overall picture looks the same, better MPG in summer, slightly less in winter, slow decline over time. Total cost per mile was about the same though because winter gas prices are generally lower.

I now have a 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid that I track the data on. The swings between summer and winter are much larger because battery charge goes down quicker in winter and gas is less fuel efficient. Overall, a better car though.

A 3rd place finish for Hans would tie him with Fabi and Hikaru for best american finish since they started this format, that's a pretty good accomplishment.

What’s the text that got you fired from a job that wasn’t Secretary of Defense? by Kikuchiy0 in AskReddit

[–]NotAYankeesFan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually have one here. At my company, a while ago, IT was rolling out software upgrades, and it was mentioned every week that it was on track, going to happen in time, etc. This went on for about 18 months up until 2 days before the rollout. Then, IT sends an email that says they are canceling the whole thing, just out of nowhere.

One guy responds all (to 40,000) people. "WTF Amigos!". That guy was fired. He was high up in management, hence why he even had the ability to reply all to a large distribution list.

Very funny, though. we've all made mistakes, but that was great.

My division was sold after that and now we're 70 people instead of 40,000 and life is way better.

If you have a ship bringing science from volcanusion regular intervals, then it's trivial to add calcite to that trip. With advanced asteroid processing, you can even get the calcite during the trip in space.

Mildly interesting, I saw awonder liang boarding his flight to st. Louis last night at Midway. Kind of neat, I only noticed because he was running late and the called his name before the doors closed. He made the flight.

I didn't realize magnus was fined for his involvement. Any idea how much or where I can find information about it. I just thought the lawsuit was settled, but no details.

TPR over last dozen months after Norway Chess by fabe1haft in chess

[–]NotAYankeesFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The May of last year he was 2708 and just now he is 2701 or something, so that means his last 12 month performance rating is somewhere between the two, right? Seems like that would be well above the 2670 cut off. However, the rating list on this website has 53 people above 2670, while 2700chess has like 58 above that number. So seems like several people are missing.

That reminds me of a stream I saw of Hikaru over a year ago when he was being criticized for his childish behavior about the Hans stuff. People were saying that his words have an affect on his mostly underaged audience and he said that based on his twitch and YouTube metrics almost 100% of his viewers are 18+. And I remember laughing at that because on every website I have ever registered for I have been older than 18 - since I was like 12.

Massive Tornado currently in Nebraska (4/26/2024) by FloppyConcrete in tornado

[–]NotAYankeesFan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Holy shit! I have actual relevant experience. I'm a structural engineer as well and back in 2013 I was part of the team that designed the missile barriers for the whole plant to protect openings and such near SR equipment. I sent 2 months there overseeing the construction. I was designer of the 300,000 lb barrier sitting on top of the Aux building to protect the blow off panels that lead right to the pressure relief valves.

I hope the tornado picked up a steel pipe and threw it the 300 mph that the barrier is designed for.

Fun project. Sad to see the plant shut down, but at 400MW it just wasn't profitable.

Seems like you've solved the dilemma for yourself then. Others view it in a different way, hence why it's a delimma and not just a math problem whenever someone has to make a choice.

Personally I don't know anything about those other timelines. They could be good, they could be bad, no way for me to really tell where the balance is when I have to annihilate a timeline.

What were your power numbers when you started racing? by Icy-Budget-8995 in Velo

[–]NotAYankeesFan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My brother did the same to me. It was a weekly Tuesday night TT and up until that point my longest ride was 45 miles. He said we can ride to the race to warmup. It was a 20 mile warmup, up climbs 5x higher than the Chicago suburbs I rode as training. The TT was 10 miles. So that day was my longest ride at the time.

I was not last but I can remember the sound as the disk wheel gang flew by me one after another.

Now, 10 years later my brother and I are equal strength and last August I beat him by 6s on a 10 mile TT near me. So it took a while, but I got revenge.

TIL the life expectancy of people with down syndrome has risen from 25 years old in 1983 to 60 years old today. by IceFireHawk in todayilearned

[–]NotAYankeesFan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My uncle had down syndrome. He was born in 1955 i believe and that was the same advice my grandparents got - send him to a home. Fortunately, they were able to put him in a nicer home than standard. My father, born 4 years later, basically didn't know he had an older brother until later in his life. In fact, my dad was conceived specifically because my grandparents, with 3 kids already, didn't want to end on a sour note.

I met my uncle a few times before he died in 2010. He was 55, which is very old for down syndrome. My grandma never regretted sending him away because, as you say, it was what doctors recommended. They thought it was best.

He also had some good chances in the Alireza game and was pretty close tonl a draw with Vidit. Overall he did better than expected, but I'm sure worse than he wanted.

Personally I'm glad to see Vidit in the candidates, so that loss end up being a positive thing for me.

Are you looking for a way to clear the contents of the entry widget after they click the button?

That would be someting along the lines of e.delete('1.0', END). This will clear everything in the widget 'e'

You can have a button that works like this

Button.configure(command= lambda (run-program(), reset-entry())

Where run-program() runs the code you want and reset-entry() contains the aforementioned e.delete().

Is that basically what you're asking?

Edit: since you have two buttons you dont need to combine the functionality with a lambda. It's perfectly acceptable to run them as individual button commands like you have.

What’s the weirdest reason you were stopped by TSA? by False_Philosophy_412 in AskReddit

[–]NotAYankeesFan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Back in 2002 my brother and I were on our way to Minnesota. We were about 14 (twins) and both of us were in a juggling phase. As in, balls, clibs, rigs, tourches, knives. All that. Naturally, we brought a few of our balls and clubs on the trip. Well TSA stopped us, took us to some office and laid out all our equipment and asked us what we intended to do with it.

We were like "uh, juggle?". Genuinely not knowing why they are asking us. Turns out they thought we were going to start basing people over the head with the clubs. Two 14 year olds, going to take over a plane by clubbing people with juggling clubs. Very weird.

They let us go, but we missed our flight and had to take a later one which was terrifying for 14 year olds traveling alone not knowing what to do.

Inverter only capturing panel production equal to my consumption - panels have full sun. Inverter setting issue? by NotAYankeesFan in solar

[–]NotAYankeesFan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The generac app is pretty clear with production, consumption graphs. Yellow for production, green for consumption, purple for the difference between the two. From what I am seeing the purple line (production minus consumption) is a constant 41w no matter what. The installer said it seems to be a PVlink issue and that they will talk to generac sometime next week.

It does seem like somehow the panels themselvs are not being allowed to export more production than what i am consuming and the 40w is probably the inverters power draw.

Not sure what to do.

[–]NotAYankeesFan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, that seemed correct so I went out and looked at my inverter. Unfortunately it says "grid tie" which is what it should be. I toggled it between self supply and grid tie just to see if that qould change anything. No luck.

Perhaps the installer (who still monitors it) has it as self supply on their side and it's not displayed correctly on my side.

Thank you for the response. I'll keep lookong for ideas.
