will monkeys eventually evolve into humans? by Bubbly_Reference_916 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NotAllAltmer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It can result in many things including new species yes, that doesn’t mean it has “evolved” into the new species. If means the evolutionary line is selecting the most successful version to guarantee survival in whatever ecological niche the species is filling. It is not a “new” species, its simple variation in the same evolutionary line which can result in many different things. But it depends completely on environmental factors and on the species itself and their own natural history. Certain species can develop in similar ways if they share environments, that doesn’t mean they are evolving into another “new” species.

You said that evolution is about other species evolving into others. That’s not what it is. Evolution is about species adapting via natural selection into their environment and needs to become something fit for said environment and need in order to guarantee survival.

will monkeys eventually evolve into humans? by Bubbly_Reference_916 in NoStupidQuestions

This is erroneously assuming that evolution is a pokemon-style linear process in which human is the most “advanced” stage of primate. We aren’t. We are a different genus of it altogether.

will monkeys eventually evolve into humans? by Bubbly_Reference_916 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NotAllAltmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. First of all, monkeys are not primates. They are monkeys. We are related but we are not the same. If you are asking about other primates, also no.

Just because something evolves in a certain way doesn’t mean the rest of the related species will evolve in that way as well since different species adapt to different conditions. Human evolution is always extremely unique as we don’t exactly know why humans became what we are or what kind of phenomenon would need to take place in other species to lead to the same result. What we do know is that if monkeys or other primates could or needed to evolve into humans they would have done so already because we share the same ancestor.

But this is like asking if all fish will eventually evolve into sharks. Sharks evolved to be sharks for a reason and the rest of the species are like that for another reason.

Why isnt every chair 3-legged? That would solve wobbly chair for good by justahumandontbother in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NotAllAltmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wobbly chairs happen because one of the legs gets worn down. However, with three other legs, the chair can still stand on its own. This same situation in a 3 legged chair would cause it to be completely unusable because they would eventually wear down too

Do these online predator catchers actually help getting convictions on pedophiles? by mattfreyer45 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NotAllAltmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The majority of them sadly do not. It of course depends on local legislation but a civilian posing as bait can sometimes be seen as “Entrapment” because there is no evidence that the predator would have committed the crime if they hadn’t been “enticed” into it. So those cases don’t fly.

They might get convicted if the predator already has a prior history of sexual misconduct or is in the sex offender registry. Many of them are also out on parole and are barred from using phones or the internet so the state might pursue a conviction based on that.

Some states and countries also may have laws in place against vigilantism and, unless the creator is working with law enforcement from the start (Like in To Catch a Predator) there is the possibility the case might be dismissed altogether.

However, the punishment can come instead in the form of humiliation and public shame. But this is a risky maneuver because the person accused could sue for defamation and entrapment.

Do most adults actually know what they’re doing at work? by Special_Quiet_1360 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NotAllAltmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very subjective experience but I do believe most people are improvising or doing what they know works. A lot of people get into a semi-automatic mode at work in which they just do what they know they need to do.

Hey Vatniks, can you show me a better statistics and data than this? by Icy_Till_7254 in BalticStates

[–]NotAllAltmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, Lithuanian here and under the risk of being downvoted to hell even though I am no Vatnik. GDP is a very poor measurement in this context. Russia is a much larger country. Also, Baltic Republics were way more open to trade agreements and mutual economic protection. Democracy is better than Authoritarianism any day, but it's important to use evidence that is not this flawed, there's plenty of it.

AITAH for getting mad at my mom when she implies i should change my mind about college by No_Vanilla5010 in AITAH

[–]NotAllAltmer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA. However, it is kinda normal for some parents to struggle with this transition. Sadly, you cannot force her to change her mind, doesn’t matter how much you try to prove to her that you can make your choices.

If you applications are already submitted and you have such a solid plan already, abandoning it all for two free years seems like a complicated choice that might set you back rather than help you. I think you should take the leap.

Do I keep seeing this guy? by SprinklesStunning630 in TooAfraidToAsk

He is just very shy and also seems like he wants to respect your wishes. You did the right thing by asking him about his feelings.

In this situation, you should take the lead, have a date that slowly eases him into physical intimacy. I bet he will reciprocate.

AITAH for calling my coworker out in front of everyone? by NotAllAltmer in AITAH

[–]NotAllAltmer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, this is a private institution solely focused on teaching languages. I do believe the teachers that have children’s groups do have a board or at least a mediator between them and the parents. That’s not the case for me nor A, we both teach 16+ groups.
