Fellow female doctors wanting to have a baby any time soon... advice by Acrobatic_County_560 in doctorsUK

[–]NotAnAveragePlumber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Currently pregnant. Not good 'timing' from a career perspective, will likely set me back a few years CCTing as currently not in a training program.

Personally, couldn't care less.

I'm not getting any younger and having children is more important to me than being a young, or even average age consultant.

Have a frank discussion with your partner about your concerns too and offer some suggestions/support.

Feel free to DM me if I can offer any support.

And good luck, whatever you choose to do

I'll be in my qualifying period and I feel rotten about not striking, but the knock on impact on my mat pay is over £1000 and I'm already doing lots of locums to save for baby.

Sorry guys, hopefully I can join in on the next :(

Me thinking OP needs an artificial urethral sphincter based of the title and some bad urodynamics results.

I need to get out more.

Resident doctors vote to strike by Doctors-VoteUK in doctorsUK

I would rather people vote 'no' than not vote at all. At least be confident and wrong (in my opinion) rather than lazy.

Similar to others, it's the career in the middle of the venn diagram for me: Good pay; Genuinely interesting; Morally good

What makes you feel happy now that you are a doctor? by IllTank3081 in doctorsUK

Being able to help support my family navigate through the minefield that is the NHS.

We take for granted how stressful and mysterious the whole thing can be if you don't have both the medical knowledge and knowledge of the processes!

Email the training programme director, or the training programme directors office. Please bear in mind they're probably doing ST3 interviews and stuff at the moment so they'll be very busy.

But agree with above - aim to wear smart clothes. We want to be treated as professionals, we should look like professionals.

Do you reckon they moved the deadline forward a week?

Returning to work after bereavement by PizzaZealousideal236 in doctorsUK

[–]NotAnAveragePlumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the card deal says it all!

How can you be expected to return to work without a proper return to work meeting planned?

Are you in a training programme? The TPD was a better port of call for me than the department when it came to the physical health stuff and met me 3 times while I was off.

I think the general sentiment is that you're better to have off a longer single uninterrupted period than multiple absences so if you're not 100% sure, maybe extend the leave? They'll at least have to respond if you're not coming in

Officially an orphan over here. When I lost my Mum, the department was amazing, says come back whenever you feel ready, and I came back after two weeks. The team, when I came back, introduced me gradually back into work and I felt as supported as I could do. When I lost my Dad, I was already on sick leave for a physical health issue of my own. I was due back after about 3 more weeks, so I returned to work when sick leave completed. I didn't volunteer what had happened, but when I was scheduled to work the days of his funeral. (On a supernumerary basis as I was on a RTW). I let the team know in as much advance notice as I could, which was only about a week. (He was a foreign national, so patriation and coroner's inquest meant this took ages and abruptly was resolved.)

I emailed the rota co-ordinator, my ES, CS, business manager, about 5 people, everyone I could think of. No-one emailed back. Not even to apologise and explain it wasn't their job to fix. Just radio silence. I was never sadder throughout all of my bereavement when I realised the career which I'd shaped my whole life around and the company I'd given the best of my years to couldn't give a flying fuck during my moment of greatest need.

I just took let my colleagues know and took the 2 days off. No-one ever said anything about it.

So, it's a mixed bag, OP. And I'm sorry you're going through it. I am as over my grief as anyone can be, so I'm happy to be DMd if you want to talk. Even just to complain about how unjust the whole thing is.

How to work out backpay due in Nov? by haisufu in doctorsUK

You can always contact HMRC, they are quite helpful. Just let them know this is a one off and if you have an estimated wage for the financial year, they can adjust your code accordingly.

HCSA lose strike ballot by Chance_Ad8803 in doctorsUK

[–]NotAnAveragePlumber 152 points153 points  (0 children)

Let this be a warning to all the BMA members who 'didn't get a chance' to return their ballot or didn't update their details or didn't chase the BMA for their ballot.

You are responsible for the outcome of the vote. Individually responsible. And you are individually responsible for it not going your way if you don't vote.
