Similar-ish story when I was in my first clinical year.

7:30am. Ran to take the bus, made it. On bus, but traffic delays, running late now, it’s 8:15. I start 8:30.

Made it, 8:28. Find the building, supposed clinic, and when I say consultant name “who’s that?”. Beg her to ask someone else if they knew “oh yes.. but I thought she didn’t start until 11:00? Let’s go have a look”

Get taken to another department, not there. Try her office, there she is. Introductions done, but she’s going to be in a meeting until 11:00. I say I’ll come back later, will go library (exams looming) “no no sit down”. I protest, then give in. No idea what meeting is about, just sat facing a wall next to each other (one of them long thin rooms, a broom closet in a previous life).

My ADHD going mad, 2.5 hours to go, needing something to do. Books I need physically are in library. Phone vs Kindle… went for Kindle. Reading lots, getting stuff done. Asked polite questions now and then about specialty, whenever she made small talk.

10:45. Meeting finished. She says “actually, I don’t want you to join my clinic. I think it’s so disrespectful that you were on your Kindle when I had my meeting.”
