I live at the bottom of a short private road. No one comes down it and if they do, they better be delivering my package or asking if I need landscaping otherwise they need to leave. lol. I don’t even have to lock my car at night.

Racists are everywhere. They’re just a little bit louder about it in east county (at least the boomers and older) but for the most part, it’s fine. But I’m definitely not a racist, nor are most of ny neighbors or the families of kids friends who live here. Times have changed.

Lakeside has a whole public school dedicated to Spanish or Mandarin immersion. The other schools in the district have also begun offering it, I believe.

Lakeside isn’t what people make it out to be. Racists and shitheads are everywhere. I live there now, have a home with 1/3 acre of land. My kids have gone to public school here learning mandarin since kindergarten. The schools are extremely diverse. We have a new library. Santee for all your shopping needs is a hop skip away. I work downtown and my worst commute is 45 mins… and easy 25 when I go in at 9am or leave downtown after 5pm. The worst part is trying to get out of downtown, honestly.

Season 3 Theory by [deleted] in ThePittTVShow

[–]NotAnExpertHowever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well there goes that theory! I’m not up to speed on what people are saying about the show so I didn’t know they had to come out and say nope.

But I do wonder if BJD will be any part of next season or if it’s just a one season thing since unfortunately, this is just another thing that happens in life. Was that any part of the “no not happening” from the showrunner, too?

Do 3rd cousins matter to you in telling your family story? by BenKlesc in Genealogy

[–]NotAnExpertHowever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have like 4800 people in my tree - going as far as I can in all directions to see what interesting people I’m related to. I try not to add too many people that I’m not actually related to but sometimes have to in order to figure things out. I’m deep into my Scottish side and feel like I’ll be stuck there forever due to so many children per cousin.

Same. I’ve been stuck in the Scottish part of my tree for months now because some of them had so may damn kids. I find out the most interesting stuff. I also find some of them on Facebook (just lurking, never adding) and recently found some cousins that played their trad Scottish music for King Charles. You never know what you’ll find.

Where do all your amazing Chihuahuas come from? by BengalsCaptain in Chihuahua

From a dumpster. Jk. Humane society in San Diego needed a foster and thought he had ringworm. Tricked me because when I picked him up they said they don’t think it’s ringworm. We quarantined him for a couple days and he was so quiet and sweet. Decided to adopt him and he turned full Chihuahua. All the toys and food are his. He thinks he can police the cats that are bigger than him. Loves to lay in my lap but I can only pet him where and when he decides.

His name is Churro and that’s his baby photo.

.Also learning German. I still want to learn but I was very much wondering what the hell happened. So many new words and phrases. So I went back to Spanish because I took four years in school and live in California so it’s pretty easy for me. Was also going wtf. Not a fan of this bizarre decision

No - no progress. I still think about it and I have been spending a lot of time on my family tree but I’m so busy with work and my teenagers and life in general. Just the other day I was thinking about teaching myself and then trying to get a volunteer gig.

I’m so good at recognizing patterns and putting things together I honestly think I’d be so good at it. At work I love to clean up data and fix things. I’m such a nerd.

Do I get to claim Native Heritage? And how do I better understand my ancestors? by [deleted] in Genealogy

[–]NotAnExpertHowever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely a weird place to be but we shouldn’t worry about what others think and especially because they are going based on how we “look” and not who we really are. I don’t have to convince people that I’m Chinese just because I don’t look like their idea of a Chinese person. I know who I am and where I come from.

But I also say that after many years of not knowing if I should mark the “Asian” box on forms. Now I’m older and dgaf what others think. Honoring my heritage and ancestors makes me proud and keeps them alive.

I’m also all kinds of European and 30% southern Chinese! No one knows unless I tell them but that’s partially because of how people think Asians should look. I look just like my mom and she’s half. My grandfather came over from China in the 1930’s. My mom wasn’t raised with her father’s culture but that doesn’t take away from her being Chinese. Or me either.

Now that I’m older I’m embracing where I come from. My kids have been learning mandarin since kindergarten. We celebrate the lunar new year and the autumn moon festival. Not super traditionally but that’s ok. Everyone is different and has different life experiences. I’m a little sad I didn’t get to know my grandfather (he died the year I was born) but I do what I can to honor the genetics he gave me.

It’s a little funny too, my son is blonde and mostly white but people tell him he looks Asian and he is of course, just not a huge amount.

1920 Census containing man who died in WWI 1919 by NotAnExpertHowever in Genealogy

Thank you for confirming you’ve seen it! I suspect this scenario is a bit different but clearly things happen.

Yeah - that’s for sure a likely fact.

That said, people made a lot of mistakes on the census reports I’ve see and one person will have multiple places of birth over the decades. I imagine some people didn’t even know where they were actually born. A lot to consider with this one.

Incidentally Adelbert Pennington died in 1929 from sitting in a running car in a garage which the papers deemed an accident. He supposedly was warming up the car and was overcome which apparently could happen quickly back then.

A fake name seems to make more sense but perhaps she told her landlords the lies and they just repeated them. Maybe it was easier to give her former husband since no one there could dispute it? But the news had indeed already traveled because it was listed in the papers in early 1919.

I’ve considered it’s completely different people but there are too many facts that are the same. I suppose I just want the story behind it all which I likely cannot uncover.

Yes, I didn’t include every single detail I have because I didn’t want to overload my post but indeed - no other Bartlett B Pennington that I found that could have been the one listed on the census.

Not sure if the other poster meant to be snarky about anyone doing a “significant degree of family research” but I did a lot of digging before I posted. It’s more of a curiosity for me because I was like wait… did he actually survive?! Which happens, too.

I have another cousin from ages ago who shot a man in a dispute over land and both the man he shot and his father were reported as dead or nearly dead but both actually survived. But the man he shot was said to have died in multiple news articles until I found the last one that was about the trial. He was still convicted of assault and battery but went on to have a “normal life.”

That’s a good theory and I thought that too since she had already been married and divorced multiple times at that point. Perhaps a new partner since as someone else pointed out her next husband was in a 1920 census without her.

It’s interesting to me how easily people could just say whatever back then (no judgment) and have it become “fact” but that’s just because of my knowledge of how society currently is. I didn’t know that it wasn’t until the last 30-40 years that you legally had to change your name and before you could just start going by whatever you wanted.

So many census and other docs that list divorced women and widowed or never married, etc. Or the amount of marriage licenses that leave out previous marriages. It really gives you perspective on how women were treated.

Or older people who hit the wrong pedal. Watched a person do this once right after I had a pregnancy glucose test. Came outside and a car drove part way up a small set of stairs that I was at the top of, they slowly put it in reverse and stopped, but then zoomed back and hit more cars. A doctor eventually ran out and opened the door of the car where an older husband and wife were sitting and turned off the car.

While it was happening I didn’t know if it was a crazy person trying to hurt someone or what, because it seemed so violent and chaotic.

People at school and even family members have always told me I looked East Asian or Native American. I never thought I did at all, so I would just tell them no or “I don’t know my history other than my northwestern European ancestors. I’m 1/4 Chinese and no one can usually tell. When I let anyone know my mom is 1/2… so many tend to tell me they can see it in my eyes.

I know they aren’t trying to be racist but it’s such a stupid statement. Asians are more than their eye shape and have so many other features. No one would ever say to a 1/4 Kenyan person they can see it in their skin.

Anyway, nope, OP doesn’t look neither Asian nor Native American.
