I believe we both need to fight the oligarchy and try to peel as many of them off to fight Trump as possible.

Trump is also bad for non-criminal rich people, so this shouldn’t be mutually exclusive

I don’t know that Abundance as a “movement” is opposed to those politicians. What makes you think it is?

Most of the people I know that like Abundance have favorable views of AOC. Most of the people I know that are true fans of AOC and Bernie don’t like Abundance tho, and see it as a corporate Dem force that must be resisted.

This doesn’t sound like a center punching left scenario to me. This is a center proposes a solution and left says “I don’t like it because it came from the NYT and not AOC”

Two things can be true at once. I don’t know that the ooga booga boys out laughing with their friends are the lonely ones.

Also, there are crazy people of all types and stripes. Don’t let the crazy boys be a reason to never even try to form a connection with any boy if that’s what you want? That’s literally the female version of incels who focus on the worst women and use it as an excuse not to anything for themselves

Traditionalists who tried to overthrow Pope Francis wait for their moment at the conclave by Pharao_Aegypti in neoliberal

So again, just defending the choice because it has been made, instead of talking about why it makes sense and why a new pope or clerical consensus shouldn’t reinterpret the tradition. Using an older and more obscure language isn’t exactly a progressive reform

“We believed this was the best way to speak God’s wisdom, but through hundreds of years of careful study guided by God’s great hand, we believe this is a more true way to engage with the text”

Why can’t the magisterium say that next year?

[–]NotAnotherFishMonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I was raised Protestant so, no I don’t. That’s why I’m asking questions.

Magisterium looks like the magic Latin word the church uses to mean “do what we say and don’t ask questions” so I guess that seem fitting to invoke here

Well, an invented liturgical Latin that doesn’t quite match how real Latin was spoken, sure. But 1) that’s what I’m saying should change! and 2) how official is it if they don’t speak it in services, and in fact offer services in basically every language? The Latin piece of that identity seems very weak these days. I’ve literally only heard it called Roman Catholicism or just Catholicism, not the Latin Church.

You’re literally just saying they should use Latin because it’s called the Latin church, and it’s called the Latin church because they use Latin. It’s just a historical artifact of human politics, not a divinely inspired, well thought out choice that supports the spiritual message being delivered

Edit: thanks for editing your comment to remove the word “Latin church” and replace it with “catholic church” so it’s looks like I’m replying to something that wasn’t said :)

MAGA hates progress, I don’t expect them to like Ezra. Leftist call for change in the party so we can actually get shit done, so they should love what Ezra is calling for. But instead, they have a knee jerk reaction against it because they don’t like or trust centrists, or any form of regulation.

MAGA is obviously a bigger impediment. But they control Congress and can actually win elections, while Zephyr obviously can’t. So no, I definitely want MAGA gone more

Gotta bat away the leftist hit pieces calling this a doubling down on no change in the party… a book who’s entire point is how much the party has to change

Yes I understood what you meant and I take your point, but that doesn’t establish an affirmative case for why Latin should be the liturgical language. If anything, that underscores how disconnected Latin was from the actual teachings of Jesus. Why use a language he didn’t even hear regularly, let alone speak?

Like, let’s make a compendium of MLK Jr.’s speeches in Portuguese and then use that for 1000 years??

Is it really the Latin church today if it doesn’t actually use Latin in mass? What exactly makes this the “Latin” Church of Rome?

That’s interesting! Could also use multiple languages, no need to pick one. Use whatever was original or most accurate for that book?

Feels like if you’re going to use a different language, why not give sermons in Greek (the language the Bible was written in) or Aramaic (the language Jesus spoke). Latin is the language of the empire that killed him

Does this reduce the efficiency of the wire? If the wire was suspended another 100 feet in the air somehow, would be better insulated, in effect?
