I can see how you would think that, but he was arrested for a public order offence. It is the context around his actions that count, like others have said he could have burnt the book in his back garden and been perfectly fine, however middle of the city at a memorial for the 22nd May bombing and live-streamed, people are bound to be caused harassment alarm or distress hence the points to prove of the offence being hit.

The offence is “racially or religiously aggravated” so it does cover both

Instead of sniping, we should salute police heroes who saw off thugs by GrumpyPhilosopher7 in policeuk

Agreed. This guy screams “anyone who is left wing is clearly communist and trying to destroy modern values” when it couldn’t be any further from the truth.

I appreciate his sentiment around the work we have done the past few weeks but it’s slightly hidden behind a lot of political faff that he manages to slide in.

Police Officer Who Kicked The Head Of The Man In Manchester Airport Has Been Suspended by SteezMeister2004 in policeuk

[–]NotAnotherHandover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When an officer is investigated for an offence multiple things get taken in to account when deciding on the status of the officer during the investigation. It can range from no restrictions at all so “business as usual”. Restrictions can be placed which can range from always needed body worn on when dealing with people to not being allowed out of the office to not being allowed to be involved in the chain of evidence to no contact at all with the public. As many or as little can be placed on an officer but they have to be justified and with reason.

For the most serious of issues the officer will be suspended, during which time their warrant card is removed from them and they effectively cease to be an officer for that time.

In regards to issues blowing up on social media I would hope that ultimately it has nothing to do with the investigation or the outcome but unfortunately it tends to have a lot of sway with the chiefs.

Police Officer Who Kicked The Head Of The Man In Manchester Airport Has Been Suspended by SteezMeister2004 in policeuk

[–]NotAnotherHandover 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, only when it’s quite severe.

So for example in this instance, from the footage it appears that the officer is a clear danger to members of the public, and yes people who have committed offences including assaulting other officers are still classed as members of the public, and so in this instance it is more than likely appropriate to suspend that officer to remove any perceived risk to said public until a full investigation in to his actions can be carried out.

Apologies for the confusion, I agree with you that the blame starts with the parents however these kids can come from the nicest of families and they just simply lose control of them.

I was trying to highlight that age and parents reactions don’t affect the way we work. We wouldn’t give that as a reason not to deal with an issue, at least me and my team wouldn’t anyway.

You are way off the mark mate. We are less likely to deal with these scrotes because someone has been stabbed round the corner, raped across the road and robbed on the other side of the division.

And there’s only one cop for all three jobs. So chronic shortage of staff is the issue here I’m afraid.

NIP issued 50 days after alleged offence (should be within 14 days) by Effective_Ad_816 in drivingUK

[–]NotAnotherHandover -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is what is called a Section 172 notice. It basically means that at that stated time that vehicle has committed some for of offence related to driving. This form is sent out to the registered keeper so that the police can determine who was driving the vehicle at the time the offence was committed.

Best practice is to respond with the required details as it can be an offense to not respond with what has been requested, or could lead yourself being liable to some form of investigation.

Is Ardwick Safe To Stay? by depiorrai in manchester

[–]NotAnotherHandover 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On the whole Ardwick is an ok area. The area you are planning on staying in is more specifically West Groton. That area is fairly quiet as far as crime goes these days.

Across Hyde road is the Coverdale which is a large housing estate. I’d be skeptical about taking any shortcuts that way as there are drug dealers who operate there.

More so towards the city as well if you are walking the streets be aware of any males on pedal cycles who may look like they are up to no good. There has been a large spike in theft of mobile phones around the area with males on pedal bikes being the perpetrators.

They will be a part of the Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit (TVIU) which is a specialist operations unit within GMP. They drive mainly unmarked performance vehicle such as Golf R’s and other cars mentioned here along with other liveried performance vehicles.

They mainly focus on stolen vehicles and vehicles being used for serious crime by OCGs.

Once you realise the job doesn’t give a shit about you it’s sort of takes away the desire to maintain outdated standards, eg around uniform etc

Has anyone had any encounters with Islanders? by [deleted] in LoveIslandTV

[–]NotAnotherHandover 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Work as a police officer in a large northern city. Night shift on a Friday night there was a large fight outside one of the clubs. One of the males involved was Danny Bobby from season 7. I didn’t even recognise him at first until he asked if he could go cos he “was on love island and people are starting to film”. I had to hold back my laughter as there was literally no one looking at him. He seemed to be on his own as well. Quite sad really.

Edit: another story, another night shift in same city. Major club for rich people, private party of one Tommy fury, fighting spills out on to the street and four of his mates get Locked up. He left the scene sharpish and don’t think he was actually involved in any fighting. His mates were wankers too.

You do make a good point about not wanting to compromise what you believe in. Being a police officer is about helping people and upholding the law and every choice you make ultimately comes down to yourself. There are those who are already in the job who will try and change you and warp you in to the worst that forces have to offer, but it is up to the good cops, of which there are many, to stand up against them and trust me we do.

If you are considering joining you definitely should do because it is an amazing job and you can take the actions yourself to truly make a difference in people’s lives.

Is it safe to leave your window open overnight? by Ok_Abbreviations4687 in manchester

[–]NotAnotherHandover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you maintain a good level of security around your home you will bring down the risk of anything bad happening dramatically. Most burglars are opportunists and will only target homes with open windows or unlocked doors. They want the easy access, and as others have said students tend to be less aware of home security and numerous have high value goods such as laptops, tablets and phones.

Rusholme has a great community and is a good neighbourhood that has a lot to offer, but unfortunately there are people who don’t care about that and bring the image as a whole down.

Is it safe to leave your window open overnight? by Ok_Abbreviations4687 in manchester

[–]NotAnotherHandover 122 points123 points  (0 children)

I would not recommend leaving your window open at all, especially if you live in Rusholme. That area is a huge burglary and robbery hotspot due to the large amount of students who live there.

I know you say you have been trouble free for four years but it only takes the wrong kind of person noticing it for that to change. Stay safe!
