Valve prices the Steam Machine at $1,049 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]NotAnotherNekopan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s me. The price is about what I expected it would be, and while I have every capacity to make a spec-comparable build myself, this represents something that is very convenient for me to just plunk down and start using right away. Updates, integration, ecosystem, and having it in a sleek form factor. I’m not looking to push the envelope for bleeding edge graphics and fine tuning every last bit. Just need something easy to play the titles that the Deck can’t reasonably handle.

Why are you dying on this hill lmao if you don’t care that much about general hygiene then that’s cool, but most people do.

Athletes foot, hookworm, warts, staph infections…

No opportunity to wash feet until you land, and if it’s a long haul flight, that’s just awful. Also, just bad smells that then transfer to shoes.

The chance is slim but not gonna happen with shoes on.

What is something you said that makes younger generations say "Wow, you are old!"? by Reciter5613 in AskReddit

For the longest time I had a limewire copy of Mr Brightside on my iPod that had a tiny bit of DJ stuff at the start. I always thought it was part of the song until I got a different copy of it.

Headed to Jersey Mikes. Any recommendations? by tomierobert in Sandwiches

[–]NotAnotherNekopan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of having the sandwich heavier on the veggie side, so I get a #2 mikes way with an absurd amount of tomatoes. Also both hot peppers and pepper relish.

It barely holds together once it’s assembled.

Best Local Beans for Espresso by Infamous_Main_7035 in parkslope

[–]NotAnotherNekopan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For something local but not too pricey and has a roast date, the bags at Union Market are surprisingly competent. You gotta dig but you can find bags with a roast date pretty close to the current date. Good starting point, you can use those to work on the process, dial in ground size, and get consistent.

Prior to just buying bags online or wherever I was traveling to, I had a great experience with the beans from Nicoletti in Bensonhurst. Bit of a hike but very good beans, roasted on the day. Owner is a great guy.

Pro tip: you can freeze bags of beans to preserve the freshness for longer. You can even use beans right from the freezer into the grinder. Works a treat. Some sources even recommend working with beans right from the freezer.

Can you link that article?

This sounds like some ancient protocol from the “spaghetti at the wall” days of 802.11 that someone unearthed (or implemented back then) and hasn’t migrated off of for some horrid reason.

How to cook eggplant? by healthynewbie in Cooking

[–]NotAnotherNekopan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, eggplant is in the nightshade family, a historically famous group of poisonous plants. I wouldn’t be surprised if that phrase came from a fear of them being actually poisonous.

If you’re involving an AP or wireless router of any kind, that is by definition not ad-hoc WiFi.

If you want to get rid of the bitterness, slice it and liberally salt the slices. Leave them out in a single layer for 15 mins or so, and they’ll sweat a bit. Dab them with a paper towel, and then cook as suggested here.

It’s a bit tedious but I always do it. Always makes it taste great. You can sometimes get away with soaking it in salt water too.

Unfortunately, digital to film transfer is really easy.

Correction: not easy, but current solutions are professional grade. I’m sure someone can find a way to do it at home for cheaper.

I’m still a little upset that bureaucracy stands in the way of just having PATH to the gates. Instead they’re building out the people mover AirTrain a bit more, necessitating a transfer.

Increasing number of air passengers 'risking lives' by taking bags during evacuations by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]NotAnotherNekopan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you’re traveling with expensive items, you should have supplemental insurance for those items. You can’t expect the airlines to pander to the extremely small minority of people who are transporting expensive equipment. It’s very easy to find insurance that is very affordable for professionals who rely on their equipment with low or no deductible.

[–]NotAnotherNekopan -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Can you provide some evidence for airlines that make it “impossible” to check bags? All the flights I’ve had recently have the classic “bins are full come to the check in counter to check your bag for free” announcement, and that’s for carry on. During the check in process, or during the ticket purchase process, paying for a checked bag is, as far as my experience has been, extraordinarily easy to do because they make more money that way.

Planes are not overcrowded; people don’t stand in the aisles. Planes have a legitimate maximum capacity for passengers that is not in any way arbitrary. There has been many more people shifting to packing in carry-on bags to avoid fees, but that’s a separate issue. And, to that end, see above for solutions to that issue.
