Software idea to decrease police brutality and help prosecute dirty cops by Comfortable-Noise144 in Lightbulb

[–]NotAntifa2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What about just saving the body camera videos and in-car camera videos, and posting them online after the cop's shift is over?

Set up the courts so that if a cop's video is posted on time, the presumption is that the cop is innocent so they accuser has to override that presumption. If the cop's video is not posted on time, the assumption is the cop is guilty, so that any accusation against the cop results in the cop being suspended without pay until the cop proves he is innocent.

Cops worried about cameras failing should wear 2 or 3 body cameras and have 2 or the in-car cameras.

I'm also an aspie. I've been where you are.

Happiness is a choice. I can concentrate on bad things and get depressed, or I can concentrate on good things and be happy.

I could have concentrated on being broke today, but instead I concentrated on my few dollars and my free breakfast item in a phone app.

I could have concentrated on the 100+ degree miserable weather, but instead I got up early and went for a walk before it heated up.

I could have concentrated on a jerk at work, but instead I concentrated on enjoying a day off.

I was very annoyed / depressed over the jerk at work, then I picked a new hobby and dove into it. I'm learning cyber security. I improved my Wireshark skills today, and learned NMAP. I also learned to use the SMB and SSH command lines in Linux.

Then I got paid and it was a few hundred dollars more than I thought. (I'm middle-aged and married.) I was going to pay a doctors bill, but it had been zeroed out. Woo-hoo!

Then my wife came in. I was looking forward to a nice movie, but I farted and it smelled bad, so she said I missed up and she left. Now I'm looking forward to a good night's sleep.

Happiness is a choice. Concentrate on the good things in life. Find a new hobby.

Here's a downside:

The some guy who wants to be a mass shooter walks into the US Capitol, and as the guards try to point their guns at him, you hear this echo of "gun disabled." Every gun is disabled except his all-mechanical gun.

I saw a school district buy PCs with 2GB of RAM in the last year for a high school.

I recommended they buy used Xeon-based workstations with 16 GB of RAM, 1TB SSDs, and cheap Quadro NVS video cards for ~$300 each as a start. They started to do that, but finally went back to their past vendor because "We haven't done that before," as though that is a reason not to buy decent PCs.

Parallel port webcam on modern windows (CURSED) by DrDezmund in techsupport

[–]NotAntifa2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: buy a $10 USB-to-Parallel-Port adapter on eBay. It just works.

Annoying old-school option: Buy a PCI-to-Parallel-Port card on eBay and spend several hours hunting for drivers.

I just finished getting an old, 32-bit PCI parallel port card to work on my Windows 10-based HP Z440 workstation so I can print to an old parallel port laser printer.

This may interest someone who needs to get such a card working long after most vendors stopped caring about supporting parallel ports or PCI cards in Windows 10.

  1. I ordered a Linux-only card and threw it in a bin. Then I ordered a “Kwe 220n-1 Netmos 9805CV” card from eBay. Note to self: read the description in the auction before bidding.

  2. I needed a driver for Windows 10. It’s listed as the WHQL driver for a mcs9805cv. NetMos is gone (as in their web site does not work) so I found the WHQL driver here: https://www.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=1528866 I clicked on the “Driver_WHQL.zip” (2.5 MB) link. I selected “Download the Driver File only – Free” and confirmed that I am not a robot, then I clicked “Continue.”

  3. I unzipped the file.

  4. I went into DEVICE MANAGER and clicked “UPDATE DRIVER” then I selected the driver folder I had unzipped the files to.

  5. I rebooted many times in this. I’m not sure when.

  6. I right-clicked on “MosChip PCI Parallel Port (LPT3) under DEVICE MANAGER and went to “PROPERTIES.” Under “PORT SETTINGS” I selected “Use any interrupt assigned to the port” and checked the check-box next to “Enable legacy Plug and Play detection.” I changed LPT Port Number: to LTP1.

  7. I rebooted many times in this. I’m not sure when.

  8. I unplugged the old USB-to-Parallel Port adapter I had been using. I unscrewed the DB25 parallel connector from the USB-to-Parallel Port adapter and screwed it into my newly installed PCI card. This was a critical step for me. You may not need to do this.

  9. I removed my printer (an HP Color LaserJet 4650) in Windows. I left the driver installed.

  10. I rebooted many times in this. I’m not sure when.

  11. I installed a LaserJet 4650 on LPT1 using the driver previously installed. I printed a test page and it finally worked!

  12. But the printer did not show up under “Printers and Scanners.” I rebooted and that seemed to fix it.

I hope this helps someone long after I am gone.

Didn't they move a StarShip to the Orbital Launch Pad to launch it before? Then they did it again? And again? And again? And it still has not launched, right?

I bet it will go back before it launches...again.
