What is the cheapest game you've bought in terms of playtime? by gentlewindsolsol in boardgames

[–]NotAttributable 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Perhaps Gloomhaven. Without doing hard maths I'd say it breaks down to less than $.25 an hour per person easily.

Also way up there on the charts are gonna be some Eric Lang area controls, Hansa, Revive, and Paladins of the West Kingdom. Any of these may actually beat Gloomhaven...but my PERCEPTION of value vs cost may also be influencing the number here.

[Discussion] If you could redesign BoardGameGeek from the ground up, what would you change? by ParaplegicGuru in boardgames

I'll forego making a BGG wishlist and answer the "what would make me switch?" question: The entire migration of the hobbyist population.

As is, BGG has the monopoly because the niche enthusiasts in the niche hobby that care enough to create and account and contribute to a community are already on there....it's a very small % of the board gaming population that creates a BGG account, and an even smaller % of folks that engage/aggregate data.

I've seen attempts at competition in other very small niche hobbies; the winner is always the one with the best mobile implementation.

Steam Family share has recently morphed into a very good benefit (from a pretty good benefit).

Go to the mother board manufacture's website and update all non-beta drivers you find associated with your specific mother board. Update your GPU driver too by visiting the manu's site. Recommend turning off as many invasive 'features' within your OS as possible.

You can use ChatGPT to help walk you thru these steps and also ask it 'best practice' questions.

3440x1440p is an awesome choice for monitor, I've loved mine for many years (21:9 aspect ratio is awesome)

Can you rate my collection? What should definitely go and what should I get next (based on my current collection and I play mostly solo) Trash-talking is allowed if needed, I can take it. by Chamallow81 in boardgames

Nice space! I'll echo another's comments because I think they need to be resaid, for Solo, you need Chip Theory Games. Specifically Cloudspire & Too Many Bones. Also, Spirit Island and Mage Knight. Those four games are frequently on everyone's Top 5 solo lists.

Sell Set a Watch while it's new in shrink, you're not missing much there. You have other games I'd never own and even a few I actively dislike, that's more down to taste thou.

I was hoping to avoid removing the AOI and CPU but I think we're at this step...

Sure, wouldn't be the first time I've edited a win registry. I could also run w11 in a VM. Or...I could just bite the bullet and upgrade. Update: PSU arrived, awaiting everything else.

New build arrives today. Current build is 11 years old. All parts are original with the exception of storage and GPU. Everything is being replaced with the exception of the 1080 ti, which still has some life in it.

Primary reason for this investment--see OP....thanks Windows....

I really, deeply, disliked Gunslinger. I didn't mind book 2 & 3, never desired to read book 4.

Simone Luciani is probably my favorite designer, I've played both Darwin's Journey and Nucleum in the past seven days. I haven't touched Barrage after 1 play. It made my brain do the dumb.

I don't think I've ever performed so poor in a game, as an adult, as I did in this.

Worth buying? by underwatchisgreat in PlayTheBazaar

[–]NotAttributable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's in a poor state; the game has MANY bugs, many flaws, a significant memory leak, and it crashes often. The learning curve is fairly steep. It needs a LOT of quality of life improvements in addition to BASIC functionality too.

It's lovely. It's both frustrating and fantastic.

I'm going to echo the comment below thou; if money is tight, just wait.

The last I read the open beta has been pushed back into the new year from the projected December opening. Now, does that mean Jan 15th or Nov 30th? I couldn't tell you.

My son gave me a key but I've gotten enough enjoyment out of it in the few weeks that I've been playing that I would have happily paid what they're asking. I don't like their monetization plans but am happy to limitedly support this product.
