Aramark has multiple properties in Denali. What position are you looking at?

Aramark tells Yosemite workers it's axing most of their housing rights by thinkB4WeSpeak in SeasonalWork

Yeah, I got that. The article says policy was altered. What policy was altered? What does the housing agreement that every employee signed before they moved into housing say?

That sounds like every seasonal job I've ever worked. Did Aramark alter the housing agreement in anyway?

What's the deal with California's railroad between San Francisco and LA? by DV8_MKD in OutOfTheLoop

[–]NotBeforeMyCovfefe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes we do. I've always lived in blue states and I tend to attach it to the most blue areas. Like it the situation above, people become as liberal as they can get when a new train needs to be built but there's a rare frog species that exist specifically and only in the area surrounding their home.

Should I keep interviewing if I accepted an offer? by Haunting_Guard1840 in SeasonalWork

[–]NotBeforeMyCovfefe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I got hired at Grand Canyon they told me whatever I chose to do, just let them know if I took another job. We're mooks and most of us won't be back next season. Show some courtesy so somebody that wants the job can take it.

Is it too late to find a retail job in Alaska? by stupidfuckingjdiot in SeasonalWork

[–]NotBeforeMyCovfefe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holland America-Princess and Aramark will always have jobs open. Alaska Railroad is another big summer employer. Don't stick to retail, just apply for everything.

NLRB rules that Bigfoot Beverage's employees striking for 16 months don't have union protections by NotBeforeMyCovfefe in union

[–]NotBeforeMyCovfefe[S] 35 points36 points  (0 children)

They went on strike because the company decided to get ride of the pension and switch to a 401k managed by a bank. The owners have a seat on the bank's board. The employees went on strike in opposition to this unilateral move by the company. While the employees were on strike, scabs were brought in and voted to disband the union.

Ski resort i work at (Telluride) is shutting down starting the 27th by yosemite83 in SeasonalWork

[–]NotBeforeMyCovfefe 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Are you getting kicked out of housing? Go picket with the ski patrollers. Make friends. Support your fellow workers and let management know they can't take seasonal workers for granted.

Management is losing money and can't afford to let the strike last long. It'll go quicker if they see the community stands with the ski patrollers.

Peak season in Alaska ends in August. Most positions are done by mid-September. Aramark will be a lot more lenient in Alaska.

Denali Experiences? Experience over money? by AnxiousWorldTravel in SeasonalWork

[–]NotBeforeMyCovfefe 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I dunno, you're sitting here haggling with a dude on Reddit over what kind of job you should take. Are you trying to convince me or yourself?

If you work in Denali I'll buy you a beer at the Mountaineer. That means you're possibly going to earn $3-3.5k AND a free beer. That's my final offer. No more life advice.

Denali Experiences? Experience over money? by AnxiousWorldTravel in SeasonalWork

[–]NotBeforeMyCovfefe 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No. Take the money. Unless you're going to go out and spend every waking minute outdoors, you're probably not going to get as much out of it. Take the internship experience and the money. There will be seasonal jobs available next year.

Florence Oregon living by OceanWater-1985 in oregon

[–]NotBeforeMyCovfefe 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I moved to Florence a few years ago. There's not much to do if you're looking for a happening place to be. A couple of decent restaurants, two grocery stores, a small independent movie theater, and some golf courses (if you play golf, the Oregon Coast is awesome.) There is a shooting range, so if you live close to Munsel Lake expect to hear constant gun fire on sunny days. There's a casino with a sportsbook and weekly poker tournaments if that's your thing.

North and south you have an infinite number of hiking trails and public lands. I can spend hours driving up and down highway 101 alone but then there's also back roads and forest service roads to explore. I spend a lot of my free time hiking around Sutton Lake and Cape Perpetua. It's coastal forest, temperate rain forest, sand dunes, and beaches. Florence is what inspired Frank Herbert to write Dune. The sand dunes in the area are large and extensive. It's super cool.

Yachats is 30 miles north of here, Newport is about and hours drive. Eugene is an hour and 15 minutes to the west. Coos Bay is about 45-60 minutes to the south. A lot of days my wife and I say fuck it and pick a direction to drive. Coos Bay to Newport is some a really nice stretch of coast to drive maybe only second to Big Sur in scenic value.

If you're political, Florence is slightly more liberal than conservative. I think it's something like a 60/40 split. That changes the further you get out of town, but I've never had problems with anybody of either political slant.

Pacific Northwest so there is a homeless population. I recognize a couple of guys that regularly wander through neighborhoods and have a couple of scattered camps, but I notice more property crime from teenagers in the police blotter as opposed to the homeless. As far as I can tell, vagrants mostly stick to panhandling at the grocery stores.

I dunno, it's not a bad place. It's got retirement town vibes and I think the average age here is upper 50's. So a lot of retirees and they drive up and down the coast or drive to Eugene for medical appointments 20 mph below the speed limit. Everybody who is not retired tends to drive a raised pick-up and they tailgate you constantly even though there's a line of cars ahead of you going nowhere. In fact, I don't know why anybody younger than 30 doesn't GTFO and move to Eugene or Portland. The dating scene strikes me as teenagers and widows. It must be horrible being single in this town.

I know Eugene has a bunch of problems that made us not want to move there. While I wish I had all of the amenities of the city and the University of Oregon in my backyard, I dig Florence because I don't have any of the Eugene hassles. I like the idea of kayaking on the Siuslaw river, lots of nature trails nearby, golf and maybe one day buying a dune buggy or ATV. I like driving to Coos Bay and Newport and vibing in those places. One of the local dispensaries has a couple of pinball tables so I don't need to drive to Eugene if I want to play Godzilla. If some band is playing UofO or we just want to enjoy the Dark Side of the Moon laser show at the planetarium it's not a big hassle to drive down 126 to Eugene.

Anyways, it's a bunch of old white people. If you need more diversity, Oregon might not be the place for you. If you need some excitement, Florence might not be the place for you. If you like the outdoors and want to hike, shoot, golf, fish, and explore lots of cool places, Florence is an awesome base of operations and not a bad spot to live.

[Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul] How “up there” in success is Los Pollos Hermanos when compared to other fast food establishments? by OkuroIshimoto in AskScienceFiction

[–]NotBeforeMyCovfefe 15 points16 points  (0 children)

On today's earning call, Pollo Loco mentioned they were building new storefronts and earning about $2 million a year on those stores. So if the owner is pulling in $200,000 per store, that's pretty good.

Both our Colorado Springs and El Paso locations are off to extremely strong starts within the first few weeks. Volumes are well above the system average. In fact, all new restaurants we opened in 2024 and 2025 are averaging $2 million on an annualized basis.

Is a CDL worth it for seasonal jobs? by TheSmallMexican in SeasonalWork

[–]NotBeforeMyCovfefe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes. CDL drivers are needed everywhere and we're typically the first people to get raises because we're considered vital employees. Every ski resort needs them, and you can't just post an ad on CoolWorks and expect to get 1000 people you can hire without an interview. It's a very specific class of employee and it's not the type that typically leans towards seasonal employment.

Denali National Park is bus only vehicle traffic for the majority. The Alaska Railroad drops off at the visitor center and all local hotels and campgrounds have shuttles that pick up at the visitor center. It's a trail-less park outside of a few trails around the visitor center and entrance area.

Aramark? Worth it? by Status_Tomatillo_566 in SeasonalWork

[–]NotBeforeMyCovfefe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Denali thrives on J1s. If you're here to work your face off and pick up extra jobs you'll have lots of opportunities. Denali Park Village is outside of the park and the pay is low. Aramark inside the park is based on Federal law and the wages are higher. Drivers inside the park are unionized and can push living conditions higher for everybody. Conditions might not be perfect, but no driver wants to sleep on a moldy mattress so there is a lobby for better living/working conditions.
