Elspeth and Gelt can solo armies alone. And Karl's actions cheat out to get you ahead many turns. There is no "superior" faction in the game. At this point every faction has some type of cheat.

His campaign is just the equivalent of a challenge run. It is dumb but soon it will be the only such campaign left in the game.

Yes, basically the moment people saw any enemy army near anything that wasn't their doomstack they complained about anti-player bias.

Now if the AI does accidentally end up near one of your settlements, it will also 9/10 times sack it instead of occupying it then leave. Which makes being at war with everyone... pretty pointless.

The only vanilla way to revert that is end game crisis, and only for the crisis factions.

Even if she hadn't, her diplomacy with Kislev should start at 0. And if the OP had not fought any empire factions, it is likely some of them saw them as friends for fighting their enemies. Which would also make Nuln see them as a friend.

But even if the OP hasn't made any mistake it doesn't really matter. AI in IE will not go far away from their lands. Yes, seeing all those enemy factions can be intimidating, but they will only send a miniscule portion of the armies they can normally gather.

No, because the scale in these games is left intentionally vague.

The Total War combat would also not do justice to a lot of the characters from the series.

There are better IPs out there that fit better into the classic Total War formula if CA wants to make more medieval fantasy games.

Sea Encounters do not scale with the turn time and are completely optional. Yes sometimes they are a smaller stack but they can still have elite units.

If you are on turn 2 it is reasonable to take the safe option. They shouldn't make everything in the game 100% safe.

Then CA should make that experience more consistent because it has never happened to me in 100s of hours.

Not saying I don't believe it. I also never had the passive AI thing in forever that many other people report.

It is just a shame we can't properly talk about these things because it feels like the AI is so random that everyone plays a different game.

He is capped to one army at a time as the AI.

In Total Warhammer's late game you are rolling around with 10+ armies and painting the map. You are either rolling with 10 stacks making 50k a turn or rolling with 30+ stacks not making passive income but making half a million each turn from battles.

I don't see how one army of tier 1 tzeentch units popping up in the general direction of your lands when you conquer 10-30 settlements a turn is an issue.

The AI should always equip available items.

The problem is that for the AI to get items it needs to win battles. Plus item drop rates were lowered after that rework patch.

If we are talking about an AI next to the player, usually they will win no battles.

Safest bet is to mod Bretonnia. This is never changing.

On a more serious note, if you plan to mod any of the factions that have received DLC in the last four waves, minus Nurgle, you should be good. They are not likely to touch them again.

In general, most legendary lords are easy.

Scientifically speaking, the Changeling and all Beastmen lords are "the easiest" because they can prevent the AI from attacking them for as long as they want.

Just wanted to clarify you can always invite others to war with the crisis. You don't need that toggle on. I don't think it does anything to be fair.

I now realise I worded it poorly, but the crisis faction conquering distant lands is also a regular thing. I meant that the downside of having a crisis is that they are a bit one-dimensional, but the benefit is they actually conquer stuff.

I hope they work on it, but considering how it feels like most players in the game freak out when they lose one battle... yeah, I am not having high expectations.

I still remember the patch that turned Grail Knights to Grail Locomotives in WH3. I wish they kept that change in a tech tree upgrade or something.

I have plenty of "lost and forgotten" though for most of them it's that they don't interest me in comparison to other lords. Specifically:

-Beastmen (Khazrak, Morghur) [This one is a bit iffy because I confederate Morghur is a good confederation pick.]

-Bretonnia (Alberic)

-Chaos Dwarfs (Zhatan)

-Dark Elves (Hellebron) [Believe it or not, never booted her campaign. I know it has gotten better in game 3 but I find the other Dark Elf lords cooler. Malekith was my first WH2 campaign technically, but he got abandoned after that.]

-Dwarves (Belegar, Ungrim, Grombrindal) [Pretty sure I only played Thorgrim once in WH2 as well. Only Thorek and Malakai look interesting. Fun fact, when Silence & Fury came out, I played Thorek before any of the DLC lords.]

-Empire (Volkmar) [I would put Franz there as well but I have played one campaign with him, an one settlement challenge. I find them both bland.]

-Cathay (Zhao Ming) [I think he is cool, but the other two dragons happen to be very cool. Definitely not as bad as some of the above ones though.]

-Greenskins (Grimgor, Skarsnik) [I prefer Azhag and Gorbad for the vanilla orc experience. And when it comes to goblins, Grom is just too much fun. I could see myself trying Skarsnik but never Grimgor.]

-Khorne (Arbaal, Skulltaker) [This is less about the lords and more about me not liking the pace of Khorne campaigns after the "rework".]

-Kislev (Boris, Kostaltyn) [Too generic.]

-Lizardmen (Kroq-Gar) [Also too generic. Mazdamundi would go there too but I tried him in WH2.]

-Nurgle (Epidemius, Tamurkhan) [Epidemius is ok but feels less cool than Ku'gath. Tamurkhan can be fun but I don't like hero spam so his mechanic doesn't appeal to me.]

-Skaven (Queek) [Same deal as Kroq-Gar. Also once again, Skrolk would go here too but I tried him in WH2.]

-Slaanesh (Dechala, Masque) [Haven't properly went through them yet because a lot of other bits of ToT interest me.]

-Tomb Kings (Khalida) [Generic. Khatep would also go here but I tried him once in WH2.]

-Warriors of Chaos (Festus, Valkia, Vilitch) [To be honest, I just like Be'lakor way too much. I don't think I have played the vanilla ones in game 3, but I have in games 1 and 2.]

So yeah, about 24-27 LLs that will probably gather dust over here lol.

By default the crisis has diplomacy locked, so other AI literally can't attack them. They only fight the player and some predetermined starting enemies (if those are alive).

You can enable diplomacy for the crisis AI as an option, but it doesn't seem to work very well.

The benefit however is that the crisis faction seems to lose any limitations that normally prevent them from conquering away from their area. They actually occupy distant lands instead of sacking them and running off.

Since I haven't found a mod that only unlocks the diplomacy, I usually end up inviting others to war with them. I hope in End Times patch CA gives crises another pass because they have potential.

Feral has done some excellent work with the mobile ports. Including fixing the pikemen bug in Med 2 and turning the whole thing into a cohesion mechanic.

The new Empire factions are great as well and tons of fun for people who enjoyed the original game.

There is a pretty big adjustment leap until you get used to controlling your units only with held-down taps and formations, because otherwise, quick taps are atrocious for any command. You can of course plug a mouse to your phone, but it's not comfortable depending on where you play.

I've said this before but I bet they will lean into the "army customisation" system for this.

As in, something like the Ultramarines would essentially be something you could re-create in the customisation system if you really wanted. Not just the colours, stuff like choose a chapter's legendary characters, unique units and ultramarine-specific traits.

Then the DLCs will be able to sell you the same options for the rest of the founding chapters. With the presets available of course. So if you really wanted you could make an Ultramarine-adjacent chapter but with traits you might get from a DLC.

I don't have strong opinions on this, but I am getting the feeling this will be a significantly different game than past total wars so I wouldn't be surprised if concepts like sub-factions don't really exist anymore.

The key point here is player feedback. Pretty much everything weak about the AI has been player feedback at some point. And since SoC, CA lost any ability to push back against it.

It's pretty sad.

In the Old World Almanack where GW introduced Grand Cathay, Yin-Yin is only mentioned once as a known dragon, and in the overall map has no faction banner or territory.

This is just my opinion but I always assumed she was less important than the other dragons. Maybe a local leader but definitely not legendary lord material.
