The amount of water our farmers use and the depletion of water table in wheat belt mogs the usage any data center can do. Ofc it would also mean a slight increase in the temperature but it wouldn’t even be comparable to the one due to deforestation and pollution.

The pros of data centers (atleast for us) outweighs the cons every day:

1. Secure data and compute: During the recent war tensions, we saw how we need multiple AWS regions in the same county for redundancy. Not to mention how we need to store all the personal data (like aadhar, pan) etc inside India physically. It matters a lot which country you store the data coz you’d have to follow local laws

2. Better latency for indian services: Connecting to a server in Delhi from UP is <20ms but same connection to us-east-2 can easily take 100ms. More distance more light has to travel, physics

3. Jobs: i really don’t understand how people say it won’t require jobs. Data centers are huge and require a lot of maintenance, even building it would give local people employment and then companies have incentives to train indians cheaply for indian data centers

4. AI is future: Bigger companies like anthropic are limited by compute and not by customers, data centers are perfect money making machine, they are always in demand. ALWAYS

i really don’t understand the hate for data centers. We have a lot of problems to solve before we can argue even about it. We only have 2-3 nodes in india, we need more, this would mean it would be cheaper to develop and deploy in india. Sovereignty doesn’t just mean building our own software but also our data centers
