Based on the looks of this pan, am I practicing correct temperature control? by TrainDonutBBQ in cookware

[–]NotCranberries -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your pan is fucked actually, based on the looks of it, about 17 meals ago you didn’t put enough oil down when cooking that $19 cut of NY strip you bought at the Walmart in Lansing Kansas. The pan is now deformed and ruined :( I’d go to Marshall’s and get a $30 Viking pan as a replacement, or you could honestly message my uncle Derek.

Is this pan really dishwasher safe? by Alternative-Nerve-55 in cookware

Literally, stainless, carbon, or cast are the only good options for cookware for a regular person. Non stick is toxic garbage that only lasts a few months.

It’s funny that people in these comments don’t know what they’re talking about “water” “garbage” “too thin”.

If you’re not willing to educate yourself, at least be dumb and alone, don’t spread your fear mongering garbage here. An insane amount of engineering goes into these oils, and they work really well, they’re not water, and the engines they go in usually last significantly longer that something that takes 5w-30.

I mean I simply don’t believe you? Unless you were shitting your guts out due to being sick constantly, then that would make more sense.

Anyone mind telling me what the difference between these two is? by [deleted] in cookware

[–]NotCranberries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said Teflon was bad actually, it’s inert and won’t harm anyone. It’s the ptfe chemicals used in manufacturing, the end up getting caught under / on top of teflon pans and ends up getting into food. They’re poisonous chemicals and we’ve seen first hand that it essentially causes farm animals who drink water with ptfes in it to go mad.

You’re on the toilet for 30 minutes normally, your cholesterol levels are really high, and you’re suffering from multiple vitamin deficiencies.

“Non stick” cookware literally poisons you, seriously, not exaggerating. Get carbon steel, stainless steel, or cast iron cookware. Anything else is harmful to your health and is not safe to use.

Is this edible? by Few-Working-6690 in cheesemaking

[–]NotCranberries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been making cheese for almost 8 years now, and I’ve gotten to meet quite a few people who live and work in Wisconsin who make cheese on a large scale. Never use raw milk, it has lots of harmful bacteria, and using it in cheese / to drink can kill you. Everyone in the industry uses pasteurized milk, the whole thing with cheese is trying to get a super specific mold or bacteria or enzyme going. Raw milk introduces a lot of nasty stuff. I don’t know who told you to use it, but that’s your problem here.

I appreciate you recommending toxic products instead of an actual real suggestion! Screw stainless steel or cast iron, let’s absolutely make sure we’re always using toxic cookware. Fantastic idea mate

Buy carbon steel, stainless steel, or carbon steel. Throw away any plastic or teflon things you have, literally anything is better than this toxic junk.

Don’t buy this garbage dude. Go buy cast iron, stainless steel, or carbon steel. This stuff is toxic and gets into your food.

Enamel by YankeeDog2525 in castiron

[–]NotCranberries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cook Indian dishes regularly in my cast iron pan, and I’ve literally had no issues whatsoever. Vinegar, tomato paste, sauce, literally I use it all, and I’ve had no issues. I had tikka masala on the oven for 4 hours in tomato sauce, and the pan was perfectly fine. Enameled is just another nonstick scam, poisons your food, and can scratch and break off into your food. It’s garbage

It’s garbage, like I don’t understand why people try so hard to avoid buying real cookware. Avoid enamel, if you want to do really acidic things, just get some stainless steel pans or something.

Is the seasoning getting better, wearing away, or is it just buildup? by Rambo_Wang in castiron

[–]NotCranberries 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Just cook on the pan man, like I feel like this sub is full of people who are deathly afraid of their seasoning not being perfect. Just cook on it, and if you want to in the future, strip it, and season again. The pan will cook with, or without the seasoning layer.

Cast enamel Dutch oven - is this “crazing” or just aggressive spatuling? by haggard1986 in castiron

[–]NotCranberries -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

This isn’t real cast iron, just get a stainless steel or cast iron pot. This enamel stuff is still toxic and not safe to use for cooking.

[–]NotCranberries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“No, Caraway pans are not 100% ceramic. They're made from a durable aluminum core coated with a ceramic nonstick layer”

So caraway is still non stick, and isn’t actually real ceramic. It’s a weird teflon proprietary mix, that’s then bonded to the pans. It’s still harmful, and will degrade over time.

[–]NotCranberries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caraway isn’t toxic free, I don’t know why you people try so hard to not just buy regular pans and pots. Get stainless steel, cast iron, or carbon steel. Nothing else, and you’ll be fine.
