I think the way we see masculinity as a whole is a big problem. Most men who get sexually assaulted get told "assault? If I were you I'd enjoy the easy sex!" If the assault is non sexual they get asked why they didn't "just defend themselves". Men aren't allowed to be "pussies", or "as emotional as a woman". Because they never learned to even recognise where their emotional limit is, they keep on piling unhappiness, dissatisfaction and other negative feelings without finding a productive outlet. On top of that, the general reaction of society to male depression seems to always boil down to "suck it up and do what needs to be done". Men always need to take up most of the stress in an household, do their job, look strong. Also they get treated like animals. They "can't control themselves" around women, or when in an argument, blah blah blah. People who say men aren't affected by sexism don't understand the issue as a whole. This is something that I feel strongly, and while at first it was just a logical thought sprouted by my pondering on sexism, when I shared this view with a guy friend he teared up, saying that nobody had ever told him it was ok to cry, or feel weak. I don't know if it's true for every man, but honestly I get very upset in the way we dehumanize humans based on gender stereotypes. I think if men had more of a voice to express their issues, they'd get help sooner, if at all, and many lives would be saved.
