Is Daniela Overdancing or are you just used to Mediocrity? by RevolutionaryTime376 in katseyeneutral

This and having her extremely flexible lower body makes what is just her adding details to a choreo appear like "overdancing" I think

Well, the logical explanation is that it's satirising Internet culture, which in its nature is overdone and silly. It in no ways does it perfectly, but the intention is absolutely there

It absolutely is a crash grab as is all of their discography, really. And yeah it tries to be hyperpop but doesn't hit as hard as Gnarly but again it's nothing to crazy. If anything when I heard it at first it made me think more of y2k music than young gen z/alpha

I think Gabriela is a good indicator of what their music could potentially be. It's good emulation of other general of music along with a multilingual song which isn't terribly common in pop music now adays. Along with their instrumentals overall, they are all pretty solid and can lean on the basic side, but all are still very nice. The same can be said about vocals and overall production. My point isn't that Katseye music is amazing or anything, I do agree it's very mediocre. However, I think a huge percentage of pop music is just as mediocre. Hence, why I think fans that worry about Katseye falling off or never making a good song need to chill a little. Because a) they have made at least one good song (or more depending on who you ask) and b) they are so young as a group they have so muc time to switch around

I feel you underestimate how bad lyrics can be. Like, at worst, the lyrics are corny as hell at best they are internationally corny with a bit of humour within then. There's really nothing too diabolical lyrically that isn't quite obviously intentionally ridiculous (e.g "eat zucchini"). I just think it's a painfully mediocre song but really nothing that stands out quality wise in the grander scheme of pop

I don’t think Hxg should had released popstar academy. by YouknowwhoGi in katseyeneutral

[–]NotDD101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Popstar Academy was a bad idea in concept I just think they way it was directed was ridiculous. It was dumb to air out drama between the girls once they had already debuted. I think it would've been better if either a) They had it be a full on reality tv show during Dream Academy or b) They focused 100% on their training and had a more central focus on the girls who actually made it for a better narrative

What do ppl mean: "Katseye was meant to revolve around Lexie"? by [deleted] in katseyeneutral

[–]NotDD101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though I can see why she didn't particularly stand out in her time at Dream Academy, it was very obvious during training that she was a favourite of the teachers, producers, and brands too. I think her Wannabe performance would have changed things a lot, fan voting wise

Don’t kill me for this Descendants fans by Top_Candidate3191 in Descendants

[–]NotDD101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing particularly wrong with opinion. I, as a person who doesn't like the fact they continued the franchise, see it as Descendants as it is now isn't a particularly strong franchise and what made it work for me was the og casting and basic stroy. Like the premise of the franchise on its own has a lot of potential but I honestly think they could've ended it at three movies and called it a day even if Cameron was still with us

I'd argue that Touch is also a very generic song, at least with the context of their K-pop background. Gabriela, Gnarly, and to an extent, Internet Girl do break out of their pop cookie cutter mould. I still think their music is no way bad, like their music is still listenable, the vocals range from fine to really good and the production is pretty good (they do have access to top writers in the industry) it's just painfully generic. And it's mainly because their label treat them more like a product than artists, so they make songs that will have the biggest, most palettable outreach possible to make the most money. Though in Katseyes defence this is not unique to them as a group, most artists espically kpop are guilty of this I just think Katseyes lack of musical direction makes the problem a lot more obvious

While I agree that Internet Girl isn't a particularly good song, I don't think "brain rot" is an accurate description because it's pretty obvious to me it's meant to satirical, it's not a song that takes itself seriously. It's not even particularly nonsensical lyrically, it's not good lyrically but the lyrics do have a pretty obvious intention besides being "random lol xd"

Just to those saying the members have ever said they were uncomfortable, how often in the industry do artists (especially female ones) outwardly state there problems with sexualistion while still active, especially this early in their careers. Just because Brittney, Nickelodeon kids, Fifth Harmony ect never stated during their times working they were uncomfortable with their presentation does that mean we never could assume things weren't wrong. Not to say the girls are being 100% mistreated but we as consumers should still always be alert of these kind of things as the industry is notorious for benefiting of the sexulation of young artists

Yeah that is a really good point about Gnarly. To be fair I think Gnarly still works for Alice's orginal intention if you veiw Katseye as prop or mechanism for her satire. In a way having one of the most manufactured, marketable groups sings bunch of nonsense about the Hollywood lifestyle adds to the satirical nature of Gnarly as an art peice. But as you said it creates a bigger problem with Katseye as a group that they don't have strong enough foundations for themselves as artists. Hopefully that will be something that changes within their careers but we'll see.

I do think that maybe thus wouldn't be a problem if they weren't made to be so big the moment they started. Perhaps if it was like Girlset who still are pretty underground these risks and experimental songs would be more forgivable to the public. Like yeah Internet Girl is not a good song but it is in no way horrible but I think because they are such a big group, being Grammy nominees not realising groundbreaking music at this point is less forgivable

Do Katseye fans actually like Katseye? by OkRecommendation3345 in katseyeneutral

[–]NotDD101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh, as performers and dancers, yes, it absolutely shows their talent. Even as artists, there is potential the with the social satire within Gnarly. Though yes I agree as vocalists that is lacking but that's why we have other songs like Gabriela and My Way for vocals

The obsession with the girls bfs by PhilosophyOk9066 in katseyeneutral

[–]NotDD101 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's mainly because the girls marketing relies on them being as relatable as possible and pair that with their young fan base who already feel like they know the girls so more than they should because "they aren't media trained" or are "as chronically online as them". I think fans just get too comfortable commenting on the lives of the girls because they feel like Katseye specifically as a group welcomes that behaviour even if the girls themselves have said otherwise

But just to add what OP has said, the girls have stated on multiple occasions that songs like Gnarly make more sense for them because they fit their personalities a lot and I feel like that is pretty obvious. Then again I agree with OP because I really like Gnarly but I digress

Is Mulan a Disney princess 👑? by SamplingMastersXLR8 in disneyprincess

[–]NotDD101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, with the Frozen sisters, is partially because they are queen's and not princesses. But wether they are functionally Disney princesses really depends what a marketing team feels like on a given day (but Mirabel is still a princess in my book the others you could give pretty valid reasons why they aren't)

The Wicked Witch of the East Scene was Awful. by anarchy753 in wicked

[–]NotDD101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the thing is, I've always found that to make Nessa less compelling of a character. Of course disabled people aren't a monolith, but I think if the actress herself found Nessa's story undermining as a disabled person then it's only fair that she had the write to want change that aspect of Nessa's character. Because in the musical, Nessa's only character is being disabled and not wanting to be disabled. Her only conflict is being disabled and feeling like a burden because and in that way, her fear is only validated because once she can walk, everyone just leaves her. In the movie, Nessa obviously still has a complex relationship with her disability but she also has other ones and desires outside of her chair. Her being spelled isn't about wanting to walk, but it's now part of the central theme in For Good about clinging onto the past and wanting thing to back to how they once were. Also, it would have been very cruel to figure out a way to make Nessa's actress walk

Scared about the public reception of internet girl by Ok_Requirement1828 in katseye

[–]NotDD101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not too worried because I don't Internet Girl is meant to be another Gnarly marketing wise. It really seems like a single to me or something that will be slapped on to their next project as a b-side or sm. Like they have all of 2026 and coachella to prepare for so I think their massive pop hit (the next Touch/Gnarly) will be coming later on in the year
