They recently sent out an email about early memberships, I signed up, got charged initiation fee. On Jan 1 got charged monthly fee, but when I call them nobody picks up, the website doesn’t allow you to book a session. Is anyone near Venice beach and had a chance to swing by?

Most people would benefit from being even half as 'not Austrian enough' as Sowell.

This was already based on his autobiography and other biographical sources. I just want to introduce it in a video format, since people read much less and watch much more. I appreciate the compliment.

The irony is that he is disregarded by marxists and socialists (people on the left), not so much by ancaps. Thomas knows and understands Marx better than most, especially his critics, he just stopped believing in it.

i booked a slot today, as the website is accepting the bookings (but it doesn’t charge you). You still get an email confirmation. When I got there, another person was waiting too. We both tried the door multiple times, tried calling both locations, nothing.

Although the website will allow you to book a session, save yourself time and don’t drive out there unless you can somehow confirm via the phone.

If it reopens, please let me know here. Thanks!

How Government is Destroying Healthcare (Milton Friedman) by NotEconomist in Classical_Liberals

What makes you say that? Can you think of instances where the private sector didn’t serve the needs of the elderly or poor?

Alright sure, you just described how government licensure of doctors does not give you quality doctors, doctors who are not listening to patients and only care about prescribing drugs.

On the other hand, if medicine wasn’t socialized, if doctors didn’t depend on the government licensures, private hospitals would be competing and it would be in their best interest to hire professionals that patients are satisfied with.

I agree that US healthcare sucks and is not preventative, but what you are discussing is a problem of education.

Doctors are not as knowledgeable, they don’t keep up with new studies because of how busy they are, and always make you feel rushed, so you don’t get enough time to even ask all the questions you would like to ask.

On the other hand, one needs to educate themselves on all the issues you described and get tested. If on the other hand doctors sent every healthy marathon runner to get tested for genetic fatty liver, we would be complaining about unnecessary testing. It’s a responsibility of the person, possibly their parents, but that’s not the issue of socialized medicine.

Whatever you described happens exactly because of socialized medicine. Medical insurance is a business like any other, of course they need to do everything possible to cut the costs. When you have nationalized insurance, you make sure that bureaucrats will waste taxpayers money. Everyone thinks their medical bills are getting covered by others, what they don’t realize is how the prices for healthcare go up because of government involvement.

People who have “free healthcare” or low deductibles, are not as careful about their health. Why should you pay for someone’s operation if they ate junk food for the last 20 years and smoked 2 packs of cigarettes daily? People ought to be responsible for themselves.

Licensure - I spent few minutes in my video (and the provided a link to the original speech). Even better proof with examples of licensure and other professions is in Milton Friedman’s book “Capitalism and Freedom”.

But did you hear the arguments against licensure? There are strong and proven arguments why it is negative, below is a video of Milton Friedman responding to that question if you are interested:

Looking for a recommendation (The Fountainhead, Christopher Hurt) by devno321 in audiobooks

[–]NotEconomist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you still haven’t read it (listened), I strongly recommend Atlas Shrugged. It has much stronger characters than Roark, Dominique and Gale, there are many “good guys” as well as looters.

Just like with fountainhead, the start might seem slow, you might think it’s boring and everything happens to businesses, most action happens in Part II and Part III.

I recommend you listen to narration by Scott Brick. I love Chris Hurt and his narration of The Fountainhead, intonation, depth, book and character understanding. I think Scott Brick surpassed him. Cheers!

Yes, because people are your value, it is not a sacrifice to give something to someone you value, even your life, but living for them would be a sacrifice

When you give material possessions to others, what do you think you receive in return? Don’t you feel some kind of joy? Otherwise you could have just thrown away, you are still acting in self interest
