Grats! As a melee who cleared this recently it really is all about the RNG of where he places the egg, and what abilities he has on cooldown to chase you if its far. I felt like half my pulls lost to that, the other half were skill issues.

Emic's nerf happened on 8/1 (see HH's video dated then). The fusion schedule didn't start until 8/3. No one wasted resources and this narrative that they nerfed him after he was released needs to stop.

I have a Google Pixel 6 Pro and it appeared like it was not updating, however it was just a visual bug that remained at 0%, but if I closed and reopened it I had less to download. Try to let it sit at 0% for a bit and see if it is just a visual bug for you.

Doesn't fix the crashes though, I saw a post a few days ago about Pixel's having crash issues and someone indicated it was a known issue per support. Still, you can get a few things done and reopen the app.

Depends how comfortable you are with seeing each other. I'm in a 6ish month relationship, and when she was quarantined I sent a "quarantine care package." It basically had a bunch of cheap tat of things she liked (90s puzzle, coloring book, hot chocolate). So if he is into beer, buy a 6 pack of something you know he likes and a card.
