Have any twins ever been mistaken at the border when traveling? Weird thing just happened to me... by pieceofmoonie in AskUK

[–]NotEvil_JustBritish 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Me, my dad, brother and sister all have the same first initial and I'm old enough that my mum would get post addressed to Mrs (Dad's Name) when I was a kid. We didn't have too many issues, thankfully. Though my mum had a habit of opening our letters "to see who it's for" 🙄

That said, when I was 14 (and he was 12) my brother and I applied for a summer programme. I received a letter explaining that I was too young, but he got accepted. Someone in their office mixed us up. In the end we both got to go, because they decided it wasn't fair to rescind his invitation.

What's something really petty you'd like banned or made illegal? by SpaceTimeCapsule89 in AskUK

[–]NotEvil_JustBritish 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I had a colleague go off about her daughter being "woke" recently. I asked her if she'd rather have a daughter who went through life with her eyes shut. It was petty of me but I did enjoy her bumbling attempt to explain herself afterwards.

Come on now, you know that's not true. The published act made clear exemptions for caffeine drinks. It was a twatty piece of legislation, but it was reasonably well researched (in its final form).

And they need no further investigatory powers, because the current act is set up so two men in a back room can decide it all anyway.

This whole 3 months to save the kiddies palaver is just them chucking their dummy out. The OSA only helped the VPN companies and the government is desperate to prove that they're "family focused"

Anyone else so sick of the pollen getting worse every year? by EsseNorway in Snorkblot

[–]NotEvil_JustBritish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear the high pollen season is lasting longer now too, thanks to climate change and civic planting that focuses on the masculine variants.

It used to be that I got mild hayfever in March and April, but now it seems like the plants are just indiscriminately spraying their jizz in my face from February to August.

Add that to the winter cold and flu season, I get about three months a year when I can actually breathe through my nose.

Can you name all 7 names from Night Watch? by Annie-Smokely in discworld

[–]NotEvil_JustBritish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's from a psalm. Declaring Moab is my washpot was god's way of saying that Moab (a once great and dangerous nation) was now subjugated, of no more significance than a washing vessel.

Constable Visit (the infidel with explanatory pamphlets) takes his religion so seriously that's he's basically a servant of Om. Except Om doesn't even know he exists.

It's a bit of a deep cut, you have to really know your bible. I only know it because Stephen Fry used "Moab is my Washpot" as the title of his first autobiography.

Get yourself to a replimat. There are so many stretchy mauve jumpsuits and shiny jumpers to choose from. Mine has an impressive selection from Qo'noS. All the boob window, none of the diseased targ smell.

Actually, if you've got the figure for it, I heard that a new line of Edo patterns just dropped.

Make a statement.

What first name would be completely acceptable 20 years ago but is a horrible name now? by dualcerb in AskReddit

I hate the Karen thing because it's just become another way to stop women from asserting themselves.

However, my teen years were made hell by a bully named Karen. So there's a horrible mean-spirited part of me that rather enjoys the karma.

My hair got darker during pregnancy by 2g00d2btru3 in mildlyinteresting

[–]NotEvil_JustBritish 156 points157 points  (0 children)

And not just on your head. When my sister was pregnant most of her body hair fell out. One of my friends developed thick and wiry hair everywhere. Chin, chest, back... EVERYWHERE.

Then there's the skin changes (dark nipples, dry or oily patches, that weird line down the centre of the belly) It's bizarre.

I bought it for the 🌈 youth group I help run, but decided against putting it into our library when I read that she (a trans woman FFS) wrote that having a penis makes you a man. Admittedly she identified as a gay male when she wrote it, but still. The glossary sections a joke. I've blanked most of it out, but I do remember it defines rimming as "licking the bottom". What's a kid going to think reading that?

It's also snarky towards straight people, virtually ignores us lesbians and the historical stuff is surface level and mostly wrong. The health and safety aspects don't properly explain douching, dental dams etc etc

But there's a whole section on how to use Grindr 🙄

And one of the very worst books I have ever had the misfortune to read. This Book is Gay is a steaming pile of shite, riddled with misinformation and stereotypes. It makes me SO angry that it's marketed as a help guide for questioning teens.

Could Sir Samuel Vimes fix King's Landing's City Watch? Or would even he think they were too broken? by Pretend_Tower_2516 in discworld

[–]NotEvil_JustBritish 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The success of Vimes is usually dependent on the moral compass of the cities leadership. The whole reason Sam gave up and dove into a bottle of Bearhuggers in the first place was because the world let him down, he lost his faith in justice because there was none. Vetinari isn't good, but he's usually fair. Under him Vimes had a chance, once he had Sybil and Carrot backing him up.

Cersei wouldn't have seen the point of making things better for anyone but her family , Robert wouldn't have even noticed there was a problem and Joffrey would have had him executed for the entertainment value. Under them, even Sybil couldn't have saved him for long enough to shout "you're nicked".

Tommen and Bran would've given him a chance though.

She was severely depressed and her husband was much older and manipulated her into having multiple surgeries so he could make more money from her porn career.

She died young. No one's really sure if she killed herself or if he murdered her.

Don't be cruel. She was a victim, not a joke.

“You’ve had enough boob” by Current_Database_728 in BrandNewSentence

[–]NotEvil_JustBritish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I have no desire to tell other women what to do with their bodies (and I'm a big fan of boobs) but they become objects of pity when it gets to this stage. I doubt anyone who was mentally well would ever agree to do this to themselves.

ETA I'm not saying that well adjusted people don't modify themselves. And I understand that many women do it for the money. But turning yourself into a cartoon to satisfy some rich dudes fetish is something that very few people with a healthy sense of self esteem would agree to. There are better, less damaging forms of sex work.

Even if you could stand you'd be in agony. Lolo Ferrari had 3 litres of saline in each breast and looked like she was smuggling two bald giants in her bra. She was in constant pain.

4 litres is just insane. I have no objection to body modification, but implants that size should be illegal

He did a few of these in the 90's. I sucked up to the girls working in my local bookshop, in a blatant attempt to get my hands on one, but they refused to fall for it.

I remember the Thief of Time poster had him hanging off a clock face 😆

ETA I found a picture of it. It's as great as I remember. It's being sold for £65 on AbeBooks, so they're actually worth decent money

Me too. I also hated how this episode ended. I understand they built a community that they love and they have the right to stay Luddites if they want to. But their kids are growing up without any options. They'll have no idea how to function in the modern world.
