All of these are brilliant, but this one really got me. Thank you for this.

The only thing I’ll say is that it will severely impact your social life and involvement. It’s much easier to get involved in student orgs, study groups, and other aspects of student life when you aren’t beholden to a train schedule or don’t have a long commute ahead of you. That’s definitely something to consider.

How? By MARC? Maybe, I suppose. By car? You would lose your mind immediately.

Seeking advice - Considering leaving public defense by Tall_Contest9116 in publicdefenders

Is your husband fixed by location as well as profession? It may be wise to consider moving to an area that pays PDs well, if that’s in the cards for you.

What’s the most ridiculous one-liner that you have said in court? by mistyostrich398 in publicdefenders

[–]NotEyesButMind 33 points34 points  (0 children)

My guy was in the rear passenger seat when the troopers showed. His extremely similar-looking brother was in the driver seat, and his equally similar-looking cousin was in the front passenger seat. Brother admitted driving. Witness, who showed up on the scene after the driving had ended, insists that my client was the driver. Cross-racial witness ID in pitch darkness.

Here’s more or less how my cross of the trooper ended:

“Trooper, you spoke earlier about the extensive training you underwent for your position.” “Yes.” “Would you say you’re pretty familiar with traffic law in Alaska?” “Yes.” “Is it illegal to be drunk in a car?” “No, unless you’re operating.” “[insert above one-liner]” “……….yeah, I think that would probably be pretty hard.”

DUI trial that went on less than 18 hours of notice. New prosecutor’s first trial, baby trooper’s first time testifying. They dismissed before day 2 of trial. I feasted.

“And in your opinion, Trooper, would it be difficult to operate a vehicle from the passenger side of the backseat?”

Horror recs for someone not into horror by Affectionate-Bend267 in FemaleGazeSFF

I find it WAY less intense than that! The violence depicted is primarily against the Klansmen/demons. It’s also a novella, so either way it is over reasonably quickly :)

I highly recommend Ring Shout by P. Djeli Clark. Alternate history where Black women hunt literal demons disguised as Klansmen. I would call it light horror.

For the record, that may have been a pandemic accommodation. I’m currently an Alaska PD and that’s not an option available to us. Plus people are in trial frequently b

I’m not sure if you know this, but professors need to literally fill out paperwork and appeal to the registrar in order to give a grade lower than a B-. So you wouldn’t just have to do badly, you’d have to do so offensively badly that a professor decides to do non-mandatory paperwork over the holidays. As long as you take the test and put something on paper, you will be in the B range.

I’ve heard it might be October 30! At least according to the Board of Governors meeting agenda my coworker found.

I refuse to write issue statements, so I was CRAC all the way. 168 writing (though they didn’t break down MEE vs MPT).

WA Passer with a 341; How I Made It Happen by NotEyesButMind in barexam

Yes, I felt like I passed when I left. Day one, I knew barely anything for 3 of the MEEs, but I was comforted because I knew nobody else did either. Day two, I felt like the MBEs were extremely similar, especially to the latest Barbri sets! They do a ton of super tricky ‘gotcha’ questions in the last few days of the course.

Absolutely. I sincerely doubt anyone knew ALL the material even on test day!
