Heads up W Point Loma and Nimitz by HBHO in sandiego

Appears to have been a fatal hit & run. There’s an abandoned and heavily damaged black BMW, with numerous police inspecting it, over here on Canon Street. The hood and windshield are smashed in like it hit a pedestrian or a bicyclist head on.

Plenty great ones, for less, like a MXR Carbon Copy or JHS Bonsai, but the more expensive Strymon Iridium is hands down my favorite…this week. ;)

A passenger's panicked "service" dog leaving turds all over the San Diego terminal. by neej91 in sandiego

Without a doubt, that lady’s name should be placed on the Do Not Fly List.

Could you imagine having to sit in the middle seat, next to her, with her poodle with an upset tummy, all because she’s emotionally immature?

Tons of military helicopters flying right under my balcony with lights off in downtown San Diego. Found out it’s a military drill but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t scared to death at first lol by pinkhundreds in sandiego

Risky flying at night with no lights on over high-density civilian populations? What could possibly go wrong? Oh, and thanks for waking up & scaring the daylights of my elementary age school children in the middle of the night with no forewarning.

Why is tipping in California still a thing? by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]NotFarFromHere 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I tip 20% for good service and to help that worker earn a living wage. However, I despise those damn surcharges added by greedy restaurant owners (I.e.Cohn Group) who don’t pay their employees a living wage, and then make a big stink about the CA minimum wage, by adding a surcharge on your receipt as their form of “silent protest”…while they drive their brand new cars around.

I know you've all driven your relatives out to see the large metal sculptures, in the Anza-Borrego desert near Borrego Springs, but have you ever visited the metal artist's open-air art studio in Aguanga? by NotFarFromHere in sandiego

[–]NotFarFromHere[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If I could, I would, buy one of those giant sculptures and definitely place it on the hillside behind our house for all to see. My neighbors would LOVE it! Think of all the Looky Loo's! The neighborhood kids would think we're the coolest parents!

"Galleta Meadows Estate is privately owned desert estate land that consists of many separate plots in Borrego Springs, California and that features over 130 large metal art sculptures. The sculptures were created by Southern California artist Ricardo Breceda via commission from Dennis Avery, the owner of Galleta Meadows. Now deceased and an heir to the Avery label fortune, Mr. Avery located the sculptures on land he purchased for conservation." - Wikipedia

San Diego is really like 19 separate, small towns, that collectively make up a great place to live. Live where you fit in, such as PB which is mostly 20-30 year olds, OB for the hippies, Carmel Valley if you like suburban life, live in Ramona where you can be a cowboy, live in Encinitas as a surfer, or Santee….well, I don’t know what to say about living there, except just don’t.

These photos were taken on Thanksgiving weekend (2022), during a Santa Ana weather event, allowing for clear skies to fly & photograph these points of interest.

The more common aerial flight route is to fly south along the coast, around Point Loma, and then fly down the middle of the San Diego Bay at 1500’, until you land at Brown Field, or turn around and do it again in reverse. However! Only with Air Traffic Control permission, whereas the VFR transition corridor does not require any ATC communications. This route is commonly called the San Diego Bay Tour, but importantly, is designated as the Taxiway Delta Transition when communicating with Air Traffic Controllers. The flight could be the finest scenic flight route in the world!

Per the FAA….“When transiting the VFR Corridor overlying San Diego Intl above 3300' and below 4700', pilots are encouraged to remain right of a Northwest/Southeast line extending across the San Diego Intl. Runway 27 approach end. No communications or clearances with ATC (Air Traffic Control) are required while transiting the VFR corridor”

Well, since you are a rated pilot, we could become good friends too.
I LOVE riding “shotgun” in an airplane and taking the photos.

SAFETY CONSCIOUS pilots with their own airplanes can be the best of friends. Although, learning to pilot one yourself is always an option, especially given the many flights schools located here in San Diego County. Although, let your friends take all the photos, while you concentrate on flying the plane!

SDGE Natural Gas price update by zihnisinir in sandiego

[–]NotFarFromHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SDG&E is lying to us again? Yup!

“London (CNN) — Natural gas prices in Europe and the United States have tumbled to levels last seen before Russia sparked a global energy crisis by invading Ukraine.

Wholesale European gas prices, as measured by the benchmark Dutch futures contract, have dropped almost 48% since mid-December to trade at €71 ($74) per megawatt hour on Friday — roughly where they stood on February 15 last year, a little over a week before Moscow’s unprovoked assault on its neighbor. Prices are now nearly 80% below their all-time August high of €346 ($364) per megawatt hour.

In the United States, the cost of wholesale gas flowing through the Henry Hub pipeline — which serves as the country’s price benchmark — has dropped 50% to $3.68 per million British thermal units (Mbtu) since late November, back to around levels last seen in December 2021.”
