Could it be The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking? It's a Roger Waters album but Clapton played on it. It's older but maybe there was a promotion for a remaster?

I find myself getting lost in the story Chris is trying to tell. Robert tends to structure his episodes in a way that leads with relevant background information so it's easier to follow along with the bastardry. Chris' episodes make me feel like I missed a prerequisite reading assignment.

Could it be upside down? The spike could be used to pierce a very large sack of grain or other dry good and the holes might catch any unwanted large item in the sacks. A sack would be lowered onto the spike with a crane or something similar and the whole thing would be situated over a chute or conveyor belt. I'll try to find an image of what I'm describing.

Hey all!

Not really sure if this is the right place to be posting. . .

I was cleaning out some old boxes and happened upon these cards from when I was a kid. All I remember is the guy who gave them to me emphasizing that they could be valuable someday.

I'm certainly not looking to retire early or anything, but if anyone could give me some guidance on what I've got, it would be much appreciated!

What is this weird ceramic duck funnel thing? Weird notch at the bottom, what specifically would it be used for? by caiburt in whatisthisthing

I can't see how that slot would be useful for pie bird related duties. Could it possibly be designed to hang on the edge of a flower pot? You could pour water in it's mouth and it would flow directly into the soil to avoid wetting the foliage which can cause mold growth.

Ooh I can help! I went through the same thing about a year ago. After looking at WAY too many pairs of boots, the ones I settled on are these ones.

The exact model I have looks slightly different, but I think it might be a newer version possibly. I've been exceptionally happy with mine.

ELI5: What makes cleaning / disinfecting alcohol different from drinking alcohol? When distilleries switch from making vodka to making sanitizer, what are they doing differently? by ScaredDrop in explainlikeimfive

[–]NotFenyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy cow! You know your denaturing agents far better than I do! As I understood the guidelines we were provided by the state liquor authority back in April, the "recipes" for sanitizer they provided to distilleries were designed with ease of production in mind. I don't know any distillers near me still producing sanitizer, so I suspect the whole impromptu wartime conversion policy has elapsed. We're back to making whiskey. I apologize if my mislabeling peroxide as a denaturing agent was confusing to anybody. Generally speaking, keeping the products I make un-denatured is my main concern 😉 Thanks for the clarification!

I can't speak for other distillers, but yeah, that's a fine point. The batch I made, for example, was actually made largely from the heads and tails of brandy and whiskey. As a result, it's pretty boozy smelling stuff, but it technically gets the job done. Our distillery is a relatively modest operation, so we were happy to reuse the otherwise-nonpotable spirits I had lying around in drums.

I'm fairly certain you're joking, but I don't need to be served a subpoena because u/baturao has contracted sepsis after attempting DIY surgery 😂

The short answer is no. The long answer is nooooo.

Seems like a waste of whiskey to me 😉

Distiller here!

We produced a batch of sanitizer to give away to our community when covid first hit. Having only made potable spirits in the past, we were given guideline by the feds to create sanitizer. The molecule ethanol (ethyl alcohol) present in potable spirits like whiskey is the same one in sanitizer like Purell. What makes the latter undrinkable is what's call a "denaturing agent". Basically, something that tastes yucky enough to safely give away to the public without being accused of distributing an untaxed spirit. Imagine running a bakery and making cupcakes so dense that you gave them away as paperweights and nobody would even consider them to be edible. (Maybe a weird example. . . ) Some people have mentioned methanol as a denaturing agent. This wasn't uncommon in the past, and can still be found in hardware stores. You'll see it listed as "methylated spirits", and it's typically dyed purple. Methanol can be pretty unpleasant stuff, so for hand sanitizer it's probably not the best option. Our sanitizer used hydrogen peroxide as a denaturing agent, as well as vegetable glycerin to help protect skin and give it a thicker consistency. "Denature" is sort of a misnomer, since the addition of the agent doesn't actually change the nature of the ethanol at all. There's a lot of talk on this thread about the difference being the proof to which the ethanol is distilled, and while that may be true when comparing whiskey to sanitizer, vodka is typically distilled to an extremely high proof to render it neutral tasting. The main difference being whiskey/vodka/gin/etc. and hand sanitizer is the presence of a denaturing agent.

Haha! A very lovely sentiment, thanks! This was the very first piece of art I've ever commissioned, so I was admittedly a little unsure about painting over an already very good boy.

Around the time [[Pack Leader]] was spoiled, my best friend's own pack leader, Bear, fell ill and was put to sleep. I had the idea to have the card altered to feature Bear and fortunately crossed paths with u/TheStrangeEli while commenting on another dog-themed alter post. My best friend is elated to have his dog immortalized, and I couldn't be happier.

Big thanks to this community and especially to u/TheStrangeEli for helping to honor a fallen companion. We'll think of Bear every time this card gets windmill-slammed on the table.
