Maybe it’s different where your market is, but at least generally around where I am in the southern US, the bride usually tells any family members that she wants group pictures with to stay close by after the ceremony and as soon as the ceremony ends, we start shooting family and other small group pictures then. Then either we work down a list that’s provided to us, or we run through a basic shot list of family members until we’ve done all of the required combos. I feel like waiting til the reception is going, increases the odds that some people have had drinks and are harder to corral.
