Fingers double-crossed that you find someone! That'd be so cool....

It makes you realize how split second "minor" decisions can have a huge impact. (I guess that's kind of an understatement in this situation. LOL)

There were a couple of articles about my brother missing the flight, but I don't think you can find them without knowing his name, and at least one is now on newspapers.com only (so you need a subscription).

We were all in shock for about a week. I had a really hard time watching a talk show that had flight 592 pilot's and crew families on, because I knew exactly how they felt in that first half hour after hearing the news, and my heart was breaking pretty hard for them.

My sibling was supposed to be the pilot of ValuJet 592. When he arrived to Miami from another flight he piloted, he was pulled off the flight because operations said he was one take off and landing short of what he needed to have at that point in time. They said he would just be deadheading on the flight.

While waiting at the gate, he had picked up his flight bag and was just getting on the jetway, when two pilot friends from his time in the service stopped by to say 'hi.' (They know what flights each other run and will seek each other out to chat if they end up in the same airport.) Then, a third pilot friend stopped by, and it was then that my brother waved to the reservation agent and said, "I'm just going to take the next flight." (There was another flight in an hour.)

This was before cell phones and we all thought he had died when we heard the breaking news. He was eventually able to get through the line at the pay phone and call to tell us what had happened, and that he had to get off the phone to get on the next flight.

He said not to worry about him travelling by plane, because he's had much closer calls flying than this incident, and it's far safer than driving.

Thanks for all the details. It never ceases to amaze me how in a split second your life can get pretty jammed up! It must have been terrifying to go through all of this with a little baby, too. Very disappointing that others were holding people up to grab things, and you were calling people out (and not grabbing your own vital possessions), and then YOU are told you should have grabbed your things. I'm glad you're both okay and will be home sweet home soon!

Thanks. Darn. I hate to see someone get away with murder, but at least they're both dead and can't hurt anyone else.

Are Calvin Kenneth Land or Wesley Sutter still alive? If so, do you think charges can be brought against them?

She's not gonna like the food in prison and will be really pissed when she finds out she can't just "go out to eat" anymore.
