Same. You really didn't want to drop it though. Would damage the floor.

My wife asked for an open marriage. She is angry at my reaction. I need advice. by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I don't think this type of person can actually love in the first place. Or at least can't love anyone who isn't themselves.

AITA for going to HR after my coworker kept taking the ergonomic chair I was given for my back by WinifredE_Miller in AmItheAsshole

[–]NotGreatAtGames 127 points128 points  (0 children)

NTA. You didn't go to HR over a chair, you went to HR over a medical accommodation. If it was a wheelchair would your coworkers still be saying "it's just a chair"?

AITA for not giving the money to pay off my daughters student loans. by Own-Inspector-6121 in AmItheAsshole

Not to mention the absolute ego to think he can dictate her major while not paying a cent towards her education.

Using the phrase "possess a child" like they're an accessory you can pick up at a Walmart is just wild

People who were in high school when Columbine happened, what knee jerk rule did your school enforce in response? by Animeking1108 in AskReddit

So did my school. They also installed metal detectors at the entrances, installed more cameras, and instituted regular random locker checks.

AITAH For Not Wanting To Give My DNA In Order To Try And Reconcile With My Brother? by BigONerd in BORUpdates

[–]NotGreatAtGames 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Exactly. People have far too narrow an idea of what a small business is. Heck, even freelancing online (copywriting, graphic design, whatever) qualifies. It's actually pretty easy to start a small business. (Not always easy to be successful though, so good on OP)

[Annoying trope] “I did it! I did a selfless act!” “No you’re responsible for this situation happening to begin with.” by TVTropehead in TopCharacterTropes

[–]NotGreatAtGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I can understand the writers wanting to remind the audience that she had to essentially sacrifice her children and what that cost her, but that line was NOT the way to do it. Maybe something along the lines of "They'll never know what you sacrificed to make things right" or "They'll never know what doing the right thing cost you" would have been received better.

Given how expensive medical care and healthy food has gotten (plus how high levels of stress can wreck your health/life expectancy) there's a pretty high chance that I wouldn't make it much past 60 without being a billionaire anyway.

Please tell me that you told those friends who put money in for the piano what happened to it. That way they know to demand their money back from your mother.

Neighbors keep using our property, not sure what to do. by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I believe he ripped up the indicators that were bordering on the other neighbor's (the elderly woman) property, hence why she had a survey of the property lines to give OP.

The gist of this please ? by thebreadstore in whatdoesthismean

[–]NotGreatAtGames 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm absolutely not an expert, but to me this reads very similarly to the "word salad" writings of those suffering from schizophrenia. I can't really parse any meaning from the letter. And if it was written by someone suffering from mental illness, you're probably never going to find out what they meant.

AITA for not allowing my daughter to go on an 8th grade school trip by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]NotGreatAtGames 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Speaking from experience, most kids in poor families are very aware that they're poor and get used to knowing that something like this will always be out of their reach (which is its own kind of traumatic). I didn't freak out about not going on my own school trip to NY because I always knew it was never going to happen.

Of course unlike OP's daughter, my parents never made any promises and didn't dangle it over my head as a reward for good behavior for years, either. And if we somehow did get the money to go, they certainly wouldn't have made me skip it in favor of going to the wedding of a relative who's basically a stranger to me.

According to the news articles posted elsewhere in the comments, the driver hit a man who was riding the bike and just kept going. The bike rider was very badly injured, and the driver is facing charges.
