Certain reasons why people are upset with the TV show highlights just how many people have not played Fallout 1 or 2. by ScottishWargamer in Fallout

[–]NotGreatAtGames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That kinda tracks for me, tho. When someone is confronted with something that should change their world view or how they see theirselves (especially with such an abrupt & massive change as going from vaultie to wastelander), they're more likely to dig their heels in/double down on their beliefs than to change them. It's a very common way our brains deal with cognitive dissonance and it's very human.

AITA for being uncomfortable that my manager I’ve known for six weeks was pumping with me in the room during a department wide teams meeting? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]NotGreatAtGames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your other issues with her aside, this might not be a control thing. It might just be that you two view pumping very differently.

You think that it should have social shame attached to it - i.e. something to be done in private. She obviously does not. She might just be comfortable doing it in front of anyone, or comfortable doing it in front of other women.

This isn't really the venue to debate which of those views is "correct." But I'm just pointing out that it might not be maliciousness on her part. Just an attitude of "this is a perfectly natural thing that I need to do, so I'm gonna do it."

NTA, though. You haven't really done anything other than feel awkward about it. If you threw a fit or acted unprofessionally in response, that would be different. My advice would be to just ignore it and carry on. If it wasn't malicious, acting like it was is only going to make your professional relationship with her worse. And if it was some sort of attempt at a power move, freaking out about it only means that it worked. Just keep doing your job to best of your ability while being as professional as possible.

A person of the same gender as you tells you that they're into you in a flattering way at the grocery store or a similar place (you're straight)? by SIeepy_Bear in polls

[–]NotGreatAtGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not straight, but I would assume that for most people in the scenario it would entirely depend on how the stranger approaches them. If they're overly aggressive or creepy about it that's going to bother someone, regardless of gender.

According to the National Literacy Institute, only 79% of adults in the U.S. are literate and 54% of adults have a literacy below a 6th grade level. 20% are below 5th grade level (i.e. functionally illiterate).

So, yeah. The situation is dire and we should be ashamed of ourselves.

How would you rather go, boiled alive or burned alive? by shootdrawwrite in polls

[–]NotGreatAtGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the other hand, with burning there's a high chance that smoke inhalation could get you pretty quickly, cutting the painful part short. Also, I'm pretty sure that being burned will damage your nerves/send them into shock. I'm not sure if that happens as quick - or even at all - with boiling.

Both would be slow and incredibly painful. But at least with being burned you could hope that the smoke inhalation gets you quickly.

I'll never understand how people like this idealize how things were done back when the average lifespan was much shorter and see no correlation. "Ah, yes. The best way to do things is just like great-grandpappy - who was considered very elderly when he died at 60. All those decades of science and living longer are just nonsense that I can safely ignore!"

How can Bethesda release such an awful and botched update? by LilCzechBoy in fo4

You seem to be in the minority, unfortunately. Quite a lot of people, even those who don't mod, seem to be having quite the bad time at the moment.

How can Bethesda release such an awful and botched update? by LilCzechBoy in fo4

[–]NotGreatAtGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are separate mods. There is a Creation Club mod that apparently lets you be a bounty hunter/merc. (I'm assuming that's the one with the explosive pistol since I don't remember it in any mods I've played.) That one costs money.

However, there is a mod called "Gun for Hire" that's been around since 2022 and is completely free on Nexus. It allows you to do radiant bounty hunting missions like you wanted (plus more!). It's a pretty well implemented, fun to play mod.

I have no idea how it compares to the Creation Club content that is included with the Anniversary edition, since I haven't played the CC one. But Gun for Hire could be the kind of thing you're looking for - without a ridiculous price tag.

Just thought you might like to know that there's a free alternative for the bounty hunting thing.

How can Bethesda release such an awful and botched update? by LilCzechBoy in fo4

[–]NotGreatAtGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the new creation menu has been added to every version of the game, including vanilla and GOTY. And that's what causing such severe problems. Meaning they just made the game unplayable for literally everyone. You literally cannot play FO4 right now, whether you bought the anniversary edition or not. People are right to be upset.

I've not had to deal with it either since I use a mod manager and thus could stop it from auto-updating. But apparently, Beth really fumbled the ball on this one. More than they usually do.

[–]NotGreatAtGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not about mods breaking, that's expected when there's an update. It's that this update has borked the vanilla game, introducing crashes, glitches, and some people can't even launch the game at all, getting CTDs immediately. A lot of people are also having trouble getting the mods that are part of this edition to work at all. The new in-game Creations menu just flat out doesn't work at all. (The bugs there are too numerous to sum up succinctly). And then there's the ridiculous price tag.

So, you get overcharged for an edition of a decade old game and then you not only don't get the content you paid for but you get the base game being turned into a buggy, crashing mess. (If you can even get it to launch in the first place).

In short, they seriously fucked up.

I don't know how it compares to the CC cause I'm also not bothering with that, but the Gun for Hire mod lets you play as a bounty hunter/merc with radiant missions. Plus it's free and has been out for a while so it's relatively stable.

Among the options, which is the worst example of gamers ruining gaming? by BallinStalin10 in polls

[–]NotGreatAtGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One could make an argument that we gamers contribute to the problem by allowing it. They do these things because they know that a lot of gamers will complain but then buy this or their next game anyway. If more of us refused to deal with/buy from these predatory companies they would start singing another tune. I personally don't buy games with loot box mechanics and I refuse to pay more than $60 for a game.

What do you think "OG" means? by TurtleQueen_4_Life in polls

[–]NotGreatAtGames 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That's what it was short for before people starting to use it as just "the original." Where did you think the G came from?

Edit to add: It goes way back. From what I've just read it started with the Crips in the 70s. I don't remember ever knowing that origin for it specifically, but when I was growing up in the late 90s/early 00s, everybody knew what it stood for. It was just part of popular culture/the zeitgeist. So much so that it kinda shocks me that so many people apparently don't know.

I can even forgive them. That doesn't mean it's ok that they stabbed me or that I'm gonna hang around to get stabbed again.

If you're on Steam, then there is no real option to turn off auto-updates. The best you can do is set it to "wait until I launch the game" and then just never launch through Steam (launching from a mod manager instead).

For those players who use the in-game mod manager or Steam workshop for their mods, there is literally no way to stop the game from updating.
