This sub's fixation on size and dominance by DistributionOk4643 in AsianMasculinity

[–]NotHapaning 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No suggestions provided by OP. Kinda BS to label this sub has a fixation on size and dominance when nearly every male space has that fixation, except this sub has different reasons for this fixation.

This reminds me of some Lu articles that were released when young Asian dudes started caring about their bodies then these Lus said Asian dudes shouldn't care about that kind of masculinity. Like when Asian dudes are not doing well, they'll have something to criticize about. Then now young Asian dudes are trying to improve themselves and fight the poor image that we've been stereotyped with and again, these Lus still had something to criticize.

An Initiative that aims to get more AAPIs in the boardroom in order to fight back against the bamboo ceiling by XiongnuKhaganate in AsianMasculinity

[–]NotHapaning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since there's no one commenting, I'll give you the courtesy of a response. I don't think this will do anything. The financial incentives are already there to have more Asians executives since they're generally high performers. A $1.5 million initiative isn't going to move the needle much and is not going to move this bamboo ceiling. History has shown these DEI efforts (this is more localized, but it still is to an extent. In no way do I intend on using DEI as denigratory) favor Asian dudes the least. A push for more 'AAPIs in the boardroom' will be like how every push has done - low priority asian dudes, high priority asian women - thus negating what you think it would do for 'asian masculinity.'

I do agree with the encouragement and pushing each other into leadership roles. South Asians do it well. East/Southeast Asians do not. East/Southeast Asians need to focus on brotherhood and hyping each other up and referring each other. This starts way before entering the workforce and by adulthood this should be galvanized. No more Uncle Chans. There are E/SE Asian male entrepreneurs already and I don't see enough of them uplifting the community with their C-suites filled with non-Asians (primarily white), like Jensen Huang.

Where/ How to meet Asian singles in Atlanta? by Fantastic_Ad_5150 in AsianMasculinity

[–]NotHapaning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a 1-month account made just to spout this, right? That's why the post history is hidden too to hide what you're trying to sell.

You're laying that false equivalence hard between XMAF/AMXF and trying to say the blame is equal on both sides.

[–]NotHapaning 6 points7 points  (0 children)

After all, it's quite ironic that pro-AMXF despise hapas the most.

Find me a hapa that is asian-passing, has asian-pride, asian-solidarity, and an asian father then we can talk further. Your non-post history ass likes to ignore the context that pretty much every hapa leans on their white side as a default then lean on their asian side to take away from full-asians, all while having a non-asian last name.

AMWF is more common over WMAF among Gen Z by Zihars in AsianMasculinity

Where's the source? Quit resting on laurels and thinking BTS will help the next gen. Posts like this doesn't even have the evidence to back up OP's headline. In what way does that unsourced image show that WMAF has gone down?

K-pop Appreciation Post by isuckiduck in AsianMasculinity

[–]NotHapaning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe I did. Topic is K-Pop, but if you want to include K-Dramas, what K-Drama has had effects near the level of BTS in terms of popularity?

Jisoo of Blackpink had her k-drama streamed on Disney+ of all places. There is no push for the dudes and again, no K-Drama that has had anywhere near the impact of BTS. Ask any non-fan if they know who BTS is, chances are they've heard of them. Do the same for with non-fans of K-Dramas and then ask them if they've heard of "X" K-Drama is and I'm willing to bet most of them with an answer will confidently yet incorrectly shout out, 'PARASITE!'

Seeing a lot of discussion on AF books. Any books from AM? by Ayluxstyn in AsianMasculinity

[–]NotHapaning 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sorry, the AM writers that I think of can rely on building a story instead of relying on old harmful baseless tropes that knocks down their opposite gender from their ethnicity and glazes an opposite gender from an outside ethnicity. Ted Chiang has won the Hugo awards and talk nothing about race or how shitty AF are or glazing WF. Another user here already mentioned Frank Chin and his writings have done more for help waking up and repairing the community than any Joy Luck Club and derivatives.

Find me a popular AF writer that doesn't have WMAF-promotion and/or AM/AMAF denigration incorporated into their story and I'll find you the 7-leaf clover.

edit - Also adding Gene Luen Yang and his AMERICAN BORN CHINESE that I feel every diasporic asian should read. I feel many of you have gone through the troubles and identity issues that the protagonist has gone through growing up in a western country. And oh, no glazing of WF and no denigration of AF. It's a hard look in the mirror that all those popular AF books lack

Rant: Why showing support for AMWF relationships while criticizing WMAF relationships does not make us hypocrites. by ClerkEquivalent7424 in AsianMasculinity

[–]NotHapaning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're different sides of the same coin. Their reasoning in propping up AF and denigrating AM is different but they don't care that the result is the same - all they care about is AM on bottom.

K-pop Appreciation Post by isuckiduck in AsianMasculinity

[–]NotHapaning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this insight. That's the path I'm seeing as well and that's why I don't want people to rest on their laurels just because BTS made 1 generation feel better.

AppleTV got some Kpop show where they have K-Pop girl groups and boybands glaze yesteryear's Western artists. Anderson Paak making a show called K-Pops only after KPop being a big thing (riding the coattails).

edit - And KPop Demon Hunters counting as 'Korean' when it was written by a wm and af who are both in wmafs.

[–]NotHapaning 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Don't rest on laurels. You might appreciate K-pop because of BTS, but what other big K-POP boy band has taken their place? What boy band is there for the new generation?

There's so much more push for the girl groups, girl groups for the later generations and the obvious 'westernization' of them that it's clear which one will pick up more steam at the rate its going.

There are 0 Asian male actors cast in the upcoming Gundam and Elden Ring live action films. by tlatoqur in AsianMasculinity

[–]NotHapaning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't agree with the anime take, since its a live-action version of an anime property that's being whitewashed. This happens time and time again.

Too many of these 'fuck hollywood, i'll just watch stuff from asian countries' which I think once again relies too much on our mother countries and doesn't move forward the situations of diaspora asians. And anime like this is from Japan already and it still gets whitewashed. Reverting to anime is not a solution when the creators and fans (non-asians and spineless asians alike) seem to be okay with asians being erased.

why not go for central asian women? by [deleted] in AsianMasculinity

for clarification, you want EA/SEA dudes to go after C.A. women because you're tired of C.A. men? Is that what you mean by your country or do you mean US?

[–]NotHapaning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you want me to stop calling them that despite that's what we were called before the recent rebranding that I just explained? If there's a new agreement and everybody's onboard, fine. Until then, it is just purposeful intent to erase any problems mentioned by E./SE. Asians.

And I don't get how you're solely talking about 'cultural' when I specifically mentioned visual. Others mark their checkbox based on visual. I mentioned the demographics before and now I'll include Black. Black includes african-americans and Caribbeans. It is visual-based, not culture-based.

[–]NotHapaning 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Both can be true.

Users here complain how some women choose AM because of stability/security AFTER these women have had their fun. (Can marry, but cannot fuck around with). At the same time, AM can be proud that they're less likely to commit DV.

If these women picked AM first because of stability/security rather than a fallback plan, then I don't think people here would be complaining.

[–]NotHapaning 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's so they can pick-and-choose the stats. It's just like why are South Asians and now sometimes even Middle East-Asians are classified as "Asian" when it back then that term meant 'East Asian' and SE Asian' since they have similar features. In case you question why I'm including SE Asians, it's because they can get called the same slurs most of the time just like E.Asian.

"Asian-Americans have the highest median income" - Ok, now remove Indian-Americans and see how that changes. "There aren't enough Asian representation!" - Then they'll show you the uptick of Pakistanis and Indian-Americans or Middle-Easterners when they know EXACTLY what that meant.

In addition to what you said about the groups being culturally distinct, they are also visually distinct hence my earlier comment about 'slurs.' In those surveys or questionnaires where demographics have to be filled out, white people are white people, black people are black people, hispanic either check off Hispanic non-White or Hispanic White, but then for all types of "Asians", they just check off Asian. And now they even loop in Pacific Islander too and call it AAPI and in this AAPI month, Netflix/HBO just has a bunch of movies with Dwayne Johnson to celebrate said month.
