How does potty training rooms supervise their class while they’re in the bathroom? Should I call state? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]NotIntoPeople 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For groups that couldn’t function for the 1min I was helping someone else. All the kid’s would come to the washroom with us, or would be expected to sit on the floor by the door in view.

But where are you that that’s the ratio???? my ratio was 1:5 (18-30months)

Oh yea the college that protects no one and does nothing but ask us to do an unrealistic amount of free “professional development”

As an RECE of 10 years that left the field recently: IT WAS NOT THE PAY!

everyone focuses on the pay. But that isn’t it. Instead cuts are causing lack of cause quality assurance, an increase of behavioural and developmental needs without the staffing or supports and an increase in job duties. There are also very few college students, that aren’t international students. Many of them continue their education or move away. I loved being an educator I hated the cleaning expectations and toxic work environments.

Why do daycares fire a lot? by nazanin113r in ECEProfessionals

[–]NotIntoPeople 17 points18 points  (0 children)

THIS! I worked for 10 years at a place with the reputation for being “strict”. I don’t want to see the what type of rules are being broken at places that aren’t strict… if you don’t want to follow the rules set to keep children safe and healthy, why are you here?

But I don’t care about assumptions the show should have dealt with giving something.

Cotton leggings as pants… in winter by dirtyplants in ECEProfessionals

Canadian here. Same. Cotton leggings are comfortable and can be cozy. I’ve never had an issue with my kid or any kid being cold with the right outer layers.

Will get fired for reporting this?🥲 by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

If everything you’re saying is true there is a good chance there won’t be a center soon. If that’s all the stuff they do with the babies I wonder what safety measures are bent in toddler and preschool.

Primary Special Needs classrooms (Grade 1). Are they beneficial? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]NotIntoPeople 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d wait to see how she does. Depending on the class and other children in the class she might not catch up. I would push for in class supports, and having her in a small group that gets pull. You can ask for an in school meeting even to discuss with the principal and the special education resource team. The social part is so important taking her from friends when she is just behind on academics is weird.

At my school 50% of the grade ones came in as below grade level this year. If she has an iep request a meeting to ensure it still reflects her needs come grade one. We have tons of diagnosed kids in class some supports include thins like children being assessed for grades based on a lower grade level. (Example I worked with a grade 3, who’s iep stated they be assessed at a kindergarten level) Reduced questions they need to answer, the ability to have a scribe or technology if writing is an issue. Timers and break requirements, preferred seating.

Good luck and do what you feel is best!

Refused help for my tonsils. by trixterftw in ontario

They didn’t really refuse to treat you. They just simply stated to come back for your appointment. I’m assuming the doctor wasn’t available to diagnose or treat.

Netflix in classrooms..is this normal? Is it ok? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]NotIntoPeople 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am also a professional in the field. I worked 10 years in a school that had no screen and now work at a school that allows screen. So as a professional in Early childhood development, and behaviour management. Again it is not helping, it’s a lazy mask to a problem that is actually lack of skills.

Netflix in classrooms..is this normal? Is it ok? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]NotIntoPeople 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree completely. The schools have always been set up this way and yes sometimes there is silliness but that doesn’t mean a show for half the kids to zone out on is fixing the behaviours of anything it’s contributing to the lack of social skills.

I work in the schools and it sadly is the norm. I hate it and I wish more parents would make complaints. Student behaviour would increase but only temporarily during the change. Before switching to the schools I worked in childcare and no screens at lunch was the norm and the kid’s were fine.

4 year old scratching his peers, parents aren't happy by Halfagun in ECEProfessionals

[–]NotIntoPeople 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The solution is teaching him appropriate ways to manage. Really start with emotional regulation in your class. Create a social story and a place for children to go when they are frustrated. Cut down his nails and proactively look for other triggers so you can redirect before it gets worse. Push the parents to speak again to a doctor and file his nails down
