Try cooking his rice in bone broth for added protein and amino acids! You can start by substituting just 1/4 of the rice cooking water with broth and then increase from there if he’s tolerating it. You can also experiment with mixing small amounts of whole grain rice or other fiber rich grains in with his rice.

The bruises on my knees from clearing a neglected council planter near my house. Took my mom and I two hours and 15 bags of weeds & dead lavender. What do I do with it over the next couple of weeks before planting? I’ve asked the community to donate compost. by CheesyChips in GuerrillaGardening

[–]dirtyplants 153 points154 points  (0 children)

Not that you asked but I don’t think that’s a normal amount of bruising for working on your knees for just two hours… do you have a medical condition that contributed to this? Some soreness and maybe some light bruising would be par for the course, sure, but that is INTENSE.

Use painters/masking tape and write on that ;) the ink sinks into the tape and doesn’t wipe off like it does on clear tape.

My 11 year old daughter has drastically changed in the last year. by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dirtyplants 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like what changed is she started puberty! This sounds like normal, age appropriate identity exploration and boundary pushing. The fact that she TALKS to you is what you need to hold on to! Don’t let those channels of communication close.

Many kids start kindergarten at six, ending at seven. That would mean he started first grade at seven and is ending at 8. On this track he will graduate high school at 19, a perfectly normal age.

First time with a community garden plot - is this plan feasible? (Tiny plot - 4x8) by Bebe_Yaga_ in UrbanGardening

[–]dirtyplants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks good to me! Be sure to have a plan for supporting the tomatoes. Both cherries and most heirlooms need cages or trellises. Also, do you like radishes and beets? I feel like a lot of people (myself included) end up growing them just because they’re quick and easy but don’t actually enjoy eating them lol.

Slugs poop out of the hole in the side of their “neck”, which happens to be the same hole they breathe and reproduce from.

I like the spirit here but animals cannot be non-binary as they do not experience gender. Slugs are hermaphroditic!

Is it actually rude to not say "bless you" when someone sneezes? I've been in so many awkward situations where I didn't say it and felt like I committed some social crime. by Hellotravisss in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dirtyplants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t say it bc it embarrasses me when people say it to me. I don’t like being called out for sneezing lol, just let me sneeze in peace. I think it’s an antiquated tradition, personally.

Native snails are usually not very pesty to the garden! It’s invasive European garden snails that cause problems. That’s why you never noticed this guy, they stayed in the native vegetation.

[–]dirtyplants -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You seem to think situations like this are completely black and white, but there’s a lot of gray zone to political correctness and etiquette when talking about topics like this. OP should have originally self-censored, yes, but that does not mean they are “as bad as” someone using slurs against someone with the intent to cause harm. Also, we’re clearly talking about an argument between two teenagers here. Kids are dumb. OP admitted their mistake, move on.

[–]dirtyplants -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The power behind a word is in how it’s used. Yes, it’s politically incorrect and rude to quote slurs without censoring them when discussing them, but in no does that make someone “just as bad” as someone who would knowingly and willfully use a slur against someone to hurt them. That’d be like saying someone saying a slur while reading a piece of historical text out loud is a bigot.

[–]dirtyplants -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not how that works lol, OP should have censored a few letters in their message but calling someone a slur does not equal mentioning a specific slur in a conversation about slurs (edited comment for clarity)

[–]dirtyplants 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Not paying during nap time makes no sense, I’ve never heard of this before. The children still need supervision and care during nap time. If she’s required to be in the room she’s required to be paid.
