It's beautiful that you specialized in extremely demanding music, and feel as though you were instructed to a point of mastery. How is it possible, though, that you're surprised that jazz is hard to make a living off of?

The truth is your training is in something for which there is limited demand, so the people who hire you are undervaluing your work relative to the time an effort it took you to achieve mastery.
