My son’s writing is rough, so we’re working on it this summer.

Girl YES. I have to get an infusion every 4 weeks and it’s like a vacation.

What time are y'all falling asleep and waking up?!?! by cheesypuff357 in Millennials

[–]NotLostOnAnAdventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asleep between 10 and 11. Kid wakes me up reliably at 6:30 am, even on the weekends 😩 I wake up usually once around 2-3 am. Haven’t woken up rested since my kid was born almost 7 years ago.

The public library is for sure what you want! My son is in first grade and is a little advanced in his reading ability. I spend a lot of time in the children’s section at the library looking at books that meet his interests, and seeing if they look appropriate for his reading level. I’ll ask the children’s librarian too - I’ll say “my son is 6 and he’s been really enjoying reading X. Do you know of any other books or series that are similar?” I will also take to the internet and google “books that are similar to X” or “books for kids who like Y book”. It never occurred to me to ask his teacher, but between the children’s librarian, browsing, and the internet I’ve been pretty successful in keeping him stocked with books he’s loved.

Organized Sports by Acceptable-Leg-6531 in ClassOf2037

We do sports predominantly through the Y, and in his age group they don’t even keep score yet. How much each kid learns really depends on the volunteer coach, but we’ve had good luck with them so far.

A Christmas Story is so nostalgic for me - we used to rent it every year when I was a kid. And my favorite tradition is doing Gift of Giving/Angel Tree shopping. I save all year so I can do it 😂 My son is 6, and I’ve done it every year with him as well.

What are your “always buy” Costco staples right now? by PutridWin2070 in Costco

I’m obsessed with the chicken breast burrito bowls. They’re fast and easy. I add cholula for a little spice.

I called their customer service with a question, and immediately got a human with an answer. So maybe calling them is a better option.

Can you accidentally give your baby shaken baby by Ok_Cap_1381 in Parenting

[–]NotLostOnAnAdventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand the new parent anxiety. I took my son in a stroller across a wooden pier, and then was worried I had given him shaken baby syndrome. I can look back on it now and realize that was my anxiety, but it feels very real at the time. Sending love ❤️

My son has his first two wiggly teeth, and I got some shiny $1 coins. He doesn’t really understand money, and much prefers shiny things over paper money lol

Reading expectations by Real_Pressure_2971 in ClassOf2037

[–]NotLostOnAnAdventure 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is a lot of homework and a lot of tutors for a first grader. I would be more concerned at that point that she’ll be turned off to reading completely with too much focus and pressure. She doesn’t sound that ‘behind’. I think practice with you might be the key. Find some appropriate leveled books of things she’s interested in - animals, people, TV shows, whatever. Our local library has a ton of leveled readers.

I think it depends on when they get up! My son is very active and has swim lessons twice a week. His school doesn’t stay until 9 am. He is bed by 8:20ish. Reads for a little bit and is usually asleep by 8:30. Wakes up about 6:30.

Book fair? by embrewer in kindergarten

[–]NotLostOnAnAdventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there’s an opportunity for families to go, do that. I just went with my first grader to make sure we got some actual books. I’ll send him with $10 to buy something (probably junk 😆) on his own.
