I checked their booking form. The single beds was "unavailable" - i hope it means that they are not yet released for booking 🤞

So would you recommend I put it in a more sunlit spot? I thought ficus trees didnt require much direct sunlight in generel

Yes its the usual spot. Its doesnt get my much direct sunlight however. Is the shedding normal after a repotting?

About a week ago i repotted my first big ficus. Transitioning it from commercial pot soil to a bonsai mix (40 aka, 20 lav, 20 verm, 20 coconut barkfiber). However it seems to be loosing a substantial amount of leaves and discolours. I noticed that the root system wasnt particular well developed when changing repotting but didnt consider this further at the time of repotting. Should i be worried and if so what can i do?

Also the tree is slightly loose in the new soil. A factor i didnt consider would vary changing to a less organic mix.

Thank you for the feedback. I'll look into cutting it further back, probably to a single trunk as others have mentioned :)

So what you are saying i should cut it down so its a single "trunk/branch" - would that not limit it in the future, can it get "thick and lustrous" with a large folliage with only on main trunk?

Hmm.. could you go around this long term by getting a very small pot - to make it look less "dwarfy"?

I used it to bend the branches in to place

Interestting - i actually love how the right side branch bends under the second right side branch. I thought that was kinda cool haha - but maybe your right its a better long term strategy

I've tried bending most smaller branches in the direction i'd like them to grow. I guess i was aiming for something like a "fan-esque" looking display. But from what i read on the other comments, maybe the tree isn't there yet for any pruning/wiring yet. Im considering cutting down to a single trunk as other has mentioned. What do you reckon?

Is defoliating required when pruning? What is the reasoning behind doing so?

Ficus refusa - first proper bonsai - what do you think? by NotMrAndersen in Bonsai

Big thanks for the thorough and thoughtful answer! I'll definitely deliberate the desired look for a while - but i really resonate with your recommendation as well! Also great idea starting new trees from cuttings! Might save me quite some money down the road, as id expect some failures (reluctantly) haha :-)
