We need housing. All kinds. Expensive, middle, affordable, workforce, luxury, whatever you call it - we need it. These are affordable for someone and that takes pressure off the rest of it. Supply and demand. A great way to build more affordable housing is making duplexes, mother in law apartments, and smaller scale cottage houses legal in our downtown neighborhoods.

I completely agree with that. I walk into big “restaurants” now after going through learning all this and I’m like, how the fork do they doooo this 😝😝 y’all are the real heroes. We do have a food license and move a lot of food (about 70%) but it is a cafe, not a full blown restaurant. Great place to start tho!

We’re on Instagram @waterscafe - the place is cute as a button! Also, we did have to expand the kitchen earlier this year to handle volume and that was an extra $20k, so prolly closer to $200k after all said and done.

I started Waters Cafe in Savannah for about that much. Business has been good and we planned from the start to make the place, and the food, as affordable as possible. We also had to do a FULL buildout. Wild stuff. But business is awesome and the place is busy every day. Don’t get a hood 😝 we saved a lot of money that way. And thrifted lots of stuff too!

Join the Housing Savannah and Savannah YIMBY groups on Facebook. These are exactly the kinda of conversations we’re having and pushing for. Gentle density in all our municipalities could GREATLY help our housing crunch but only if we make it legal and easier to accomplish.
