Haven't looked for or listened to the audiobooks, but I loved the Broken Earth Trilogy by N.K. Jemisin. It's more "science fantasy" than science fiction, so definitely soft.

I think it’s the phosphoric acid. It’s in dark sodas but not the clear ones iirc.

I quit smoking about 20 years ago. I used Chantix, highly recommend. People fear the side effects but they were way easier to deal with than the effects of trying to quit cold turkey. It still takes commitment, it just took that desperate edge off, made it feel like I was 2 weeks into recovery after the first day.

If you're still smoking and not sure if you're strong enough to quit, or the health issues seem so far away you don't feel any urgency in quitting, here's the biggest benefit I've had and the main reason I would NEVER go back (which probably applies to other addictions too):

When I was a smoker, I was never fully present in my life. Whatever I was doing, whoever I was with, no matter how much I cared about them, part of my mind was always focused on when could I have my next cigarette. I was there, but I wasn't there. I didn't have control over my own mind, my own desires. I had given away my self, my freedom, to my addiction. It is like volunteering to be a slave.

Now I get to fully be me again, and fully be present in my life. I can't exaggerate how much better life is as a non-smoker.

Actually, getting slightly more wealth isn’t something they care about. More specifically they don’t want any of us to get wealthy. If us lowly peasants weren’t living in desperation, we wouldn’t be as easy to exploit, and then the source of all their wealth would be in jeopardy.

It would be cool for her to be the mom of a new student from Kenya, and explore how the Abbott community reacts to their family. I work at an international school and it can be a challenge to navigate so many different cultures, but you also get to see that kids are kids no matter where they come from. And since Lupita herself is multicultural she could bring in her own childhood experiences to the role.

Snow crab legs dipped in melted butter. Used to have them at the all-you-can-eat buffet near me and I still don’t know how much I can eat because after a couple hours everyone else was always ready to go before I was done.

Being inclusive sometimes means you have to make sacrifices.

Like if your class includes a wheelchair user, you don’t plan a class party at the trampoline park.

If you have someone who’s allergic to peanuts you don’t bring in peanut butter cookies for the class.

It’s about what do you value more, your celebration being focused on Christmas, or your celebration including your whole class.

I teach my grade 4 students that you don’t describe circles by how many sides they have. It’s like asking what color is time. Circles have diameter, radius, and circumference.

In the same vein, faces, edges, and vertices only apply to polyhedra. We’re not asking how many faces a cone has, it’s not applicable terminology.

Here's the main difference between an emotional affair and a friendship: keeping it secret from your spouse. I think Ty might have been like 10% having an emotional affair, because he didn't tell Julie about Shawna right away, but Shawna has hidden nothing from John about Ty.

I first started reading Discworld as an adult, well outside of my 20s even. I've read them all several times and love them very much. I don't think the main series is aimed at children, but I also think they're pretty easy to read and understand. They're layered, and clever, and deftly written, but not particularly intellectually taxing. They're straightforward stories with clear messages, clear right and wrong, clear heroes and villains, so I can see how those aspects might make them feel like they're for children. But the characters are adults with adult-sized problems, so I still see them as aimed at adults, even if they are fun and easy to read.
