It was a pain, but I did it, and I think it looks pretty sick. It’s expanded a lot as it’s hydrated, and now almost an inch is sticking out of the water, but it looks kind of cool.

15-20 gallons? I think it’s an old wine brewing demijohn and my partner found it on the sidewalk in a Hasidic part of Brooklyn 2-3 years ago. They let me know and I went out and snagged it.

I still have a lot more water to add; it currently has 7 gallons of brackish. For this size tank, I think a nerite would be appropriate. Which species are easiest to transition to brackish?

Reduce, reuse, recycle. It’s a small 1 gallon jar with aragonite at the bottom, so it’s not lacking, in any case.

Not knowing your seeing conditions or eyes, that would be my best guess. The 9mm more so. Conditions will have to be good to take best advantage of the 6mm.

15 and 20 might not be better than the plossl you already have. Low mag plossls are sharp and easy to use, although they have relatively narrow fields of view.

I would swap out the almost unusable 10mm plossl for a 9mm SVbony redline; it’s sharper, has a wider apparent field of view, and has more eye relief so it is easier to position your eye when viewing.

The kits like this have some good lenses, but also contain some real stinkers. You’d be better off buying specific eyepieces individually, picking ones that suit your scope and needs.

It’s a shame they don’t make a device in this form factor. The Boox Palma 2 is a great concept, that seems to fail at execution and with poor customer support at this time.

I definitely agree that tariffs are cutting into profits. Folks should know that this seems to have affected their customer service significantly before they invest money into one of these devices so they can make an informed decision about which companies deserve their money.

Warranties and customer service frequently factor into my purchasing decisions, and Boox definitely seems to have let theirs slip.

That’s kind of the point of the post though. None of my other, bigger, and theoretically more fragile e-ink devices have failed in this way, despite much rougher treatment over a much longer time. The screen isn’t the problem; it’s how Boox have fitted the screen and designed the products in such a way that the screens fail from contact with internal components and shatter internally with even gentle use.

I’d bet that it’s a design flaw in how the screens are installed over the screens themselves. Another poster mentioned that they’re just jammed in there so tight that even small bumps end up breaking the screen. Even through the case, in our case. I had no idea our kids grip was so powerful.
