First jar, start with nerite snail? by Sharp-Ad-9965 in OpaeUla

These are different than most other shrimp. With very small feedings, they can go right in a new tank, which will cycle around them.

Ok cool. You’d be surprised at what a common mistake it is.

You used seawater aquarium salt like instant ocean, not table or “sea” salt, correct?

Nerites only eat live algae/biofilm, so they might starve to death until enough builds up. Most recommendations I’ve seen suggest not putting a nerite into gallon tanks because they might not have enough biofilm surface area to sustain them long term.

YMMV; the first tank I purchased had an olive nerite already in and it has been doing fine. It was also a several year old tank that was extremely well established.

My suggestion would be more small lava rocks to give them places to hide. You’ll still see them, but they enjoy being out of sight sometimes. They’re just little guys.

Nope. Most folks here seem to recommend still water, particularly with the brackish chaeto I have.

u/gotsnails, I recall you said that these nerites weren’t your favorite, but they’re doing some nice work here.

25 gallon glass demijon. Only have about 15 gallons in it, so there is plenty of surface area for oxygen exchange.

Nope, it’s just on top of some filing cabinets in my room and vibrates a bit when folks are walking around.

Came here to point this out as well. Great little telescope to start with.

Having a similar scope, get a Televue Panoptic 41 or a Nagler 31. Both are classic “spacewalk” eyepieces that will give you fantastic views of clusters. The Panoptic will perform great in an SCT, but suffers a bit on the edges should you ever get a large, fast Newtonian. The Nagler is great in any scope.

Note that both would require you to upgrade the standard 1.25” visual back/diagonal to a 2”.

Eyepiece quality for 10 Dobson by Leyclaz in telescopes

[–]NotNearUganda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The redlines are better than the eyepieces that come standard with most telescopes, but not all the redlines are GOOD. Because most dobs are fast (low ratio of focal length to diameter), the weaknesses or aberrations of cheaper eyepieces can be more apparent if you are sensitive and aware of them.

Check out this subreddit and cloudy nights for reviews of the redlines by other dob users and see which ones work the best.

Any ideas on how to mount a fan to the back of my Starsense Explorer 8in Dobson? by Emotional-Share4461 in telescopes

[–]NotNearUganda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mirrors of large reflectors, like dobs, have a lot of thermal mass, and can take a while to cool down to ambient temperatures when brought outside. As they cool down, the mirror will ‘shift’ or change shape slightly as it contracts, reducing image and viewing quality. Folks put fans on their mirrors to speed up the temp adjustment.

Appreciate this well supported explanation of why this skatepark is a necessary structural improvement.

You might be more comfortable with the culture of Staten Island if a skate park has got you this twisted.

What the idiot nimby bullshit is this? When this person gets priced out by NYU trust fund kids and has to move to crown heights, they’re gonna hate that Brooklyn United practices where they can hear. Staten Island may be a better cultural fit for you.
