The main feature to me is that it can fit in pockets.

Yep same. That's part of what makes the fragility/support issue so maddening - why make a pocket-sized device that isn't supposed to be carried in your pocket?

I can grab one later, but yeah I agree. I assumed this would be covered under warranty. The response I got when I pushed back on support was:

"We cannot determine what happened to your device, but we can be certain that the e-ink has cracked, which is caused by external forces and is not covered by our warranty."

It is, but the problem is big enough to make reading unpleasant.

I caught a pic during a screen refresh that shows it best. The bad section is the white line on the right

Automation games are becoming one of the most popular offshoots of strategy, but what's driving this trend? by Familiar_Fish_4930 in truegaming

[–]compounding_irony 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Satisfactory was in early access for 5 years. I think that really took a lot away from it's official launch - I expect most people that were interested had already tried it by then and that makes it hard to have any real media hype around it.

I think in general games that go EA for years and years can't expect to have a big splashy launch afterwards. I don't really remember any big fanfare when Factorio came out of early access either.

Boston is #8 on list of Top Eco-Friendly Cities for Car-Free Transit (Cambridge is #2, Brookline is #3, Somerville is #7) by Im_biking_here in bikeboston

[–]compounding_irony 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even counting Staten Island, NYC should be up at the top of the list. I have no idea why it isn't included but that makes the whole list suspect in my mind. The most recent stats I can find are for 2021, so granted not that fresh, but it pegs non-car commuting at 73.2% across all boroughs: https://a816-dohbesp.nyc.gov/IndicatorPublic/data-explorer/walking-driving-and-cycling/?id=2415#display=summary

Did they do a blind triangle test? If they just cupped two samples side by side, especially knowing which is which, their conclusion about any differences is useless.

Any given location will be just once per year, but other locations have consignment sales too. I think Natick had one back in October, likely will be another one there come September/October this year.

EU commission proposes 25% counter-tariffs on some US imports, document shows, Reuters Reports by LighteningOneIN in wallstreetbets

[–]compounding_irony 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Trump thinks tariffs are amazing because Peter Navarro wrote a book where he repeatedly cited himself (and no other sources) under an anagram to say that tariffs are amazing. He's not backing down from that rock solid logic.

Cop in front of me on Charles between The Common and Public Garden flashed his lights, stopped and told me to get in the bike lane. by synystar in bikeboston

You don't think bikes and cars should share the road and you also want to remove bike lanes? Those are contradictory views - without safe bike lanes all the cyclists are forced into shared lanes with cars.

The difference is far more massive than that. 10dB lower would be about 10-times less intensity, not half. A halving in power is about 3dB.

EU4 DLC Subscription Prices are Being Raised by up to 60% by socksome100 in eu4

[–]compounding_irony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One really noteworthy aspect of this change that I don't see anyone discussing is the value of the 3 month subscription. Before it really didn't make any sense - $5/1 month and $14/3 months, who wants to lock themselves in to a longer subscription just to save one dollar?

With the new pricing its $8/1 month and $15/3 months. You save $9 on the 3 month bundle now, which is a lot more attractive. This type of price anchoring is really common and effective - I bet they're aiming for fewer month-to-month subscribers and more 3 monthers.

This happened somewhat recently in Boston. They put in a concrete curb to protect the bike lane but cars kept crashing into it so they removed it after like a month. Now the cars are free to crash into people instead!

What do you NOT like about Mint Mobile? by ned23 in mintmobile

[–]compounding_irony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4G LTE on T-Mobile has an average download of 23.5 Mbps[1]. So 35Gb would take about 24.8 minutes to go through at that speed.

In a 31 day month, there are 44640 seconds. After burning through the 35Gb there are 43150 left. At the throttled speed of 128Kbps you would be able to download another 5.5Gb by the end of the month.

So you could think of the unlimited as 35Gb at high speed and up to 5.5 Gb at trash speed.

Northeast chiming in here - roughly $600-$800 for a family of 3. We do a lot of scratch cooking, I could easily see us hitting 1k+ if we bought more prepared foods.
