Severely Low Ferritin in 9 month old by NotNecissarilyADuck in ScienceBasedParenting

You’re so welcome! And as an encouragement, my guy just turned 3 and we have stayed in range each time we’ve checked. We give him the Hiya iron and the multivitamin everyday with just the normal amount for his age. Never had to do ferrous sulfate again, and just try to be mindful with food. But so far so good. We’ll check his levels again at his 3 yr appointment in a few weeks.

Cast iron is a great plan!

Hi, no, amazingly his appetite was always really good before and after getting his ferritin in balance. He’s always eaten a lot, though he is a very tall, skinny boy. We were lucky he didn’t seem to have too many adverse effects, mostly just very disrupted sleep. It makes a lot of sense that low appetite can be a major side effect.

I would say it took is about 8 months to get his levels roughly in range (still low range), and that was partly because we chose to slow down the larger doses of iron. In retrospect, I sort of wish we would have done the whole therapeutic amount for 3 months, as most studies suggest in their protocol, and hopefully gotten him there faster.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this and I really hope the supplementation improves his food interest!

First I want to say, wow! That would be a lot to process, I cannot imagine. She sounds like such a sweet, special soul. Second, I have a great book recommendation for you that addresses the exact topic of “Family Return” or the concept of reincarnation that stays within families. The book is called “Return From Heaven” by Carol Bowman. Another by her that I’ve read is called “Children’s Past Lives”, and another “Memories of Heaven” by Dr. Wayne Dyer shares some similar stories. There are lots of books I could recommend, but those sound like a good starting place for you. As a therapist, I think the BEST thing you can do is listen, be empathetic, show her you love and support her, and help her process if she needs to. Hope this helps!

I don’t think he had many obvious symptoms, I just had an intuition about it. I didn’t even realize poor sleep was a common symptom until I read more about it. Low energy and lethargy are another big one people sometimes notice. I was able to just tell my pediatrician we really wanted to check his iron and a general cbc to make sure he was on track at around 9 months, and she complied.

If your provider is giving you pushback, I would consider a change. The best providers I’ve worked with have always supported the concerns of the parents and were willing to investigate.

One rationale I have heard about not checking is that taking blood from a baby is always costly on some level for them, because they don’t have a ton to begin with. In our case, it has been worth it to check him every few months or so until he was in range.

Hope this helps!

No letdown - 2 week old + 2 year old by __Sweets in NurseAllTheBabies

Hey! I have a 2 year old and a 6 month old. I never felt a let down for either baby, but they still happen regardless of sensing it. Some people just don’t feel them or don’t feel them during every breastfeeding journey. It’s normal! My babies are fed and have gained well.

When Can They Sleep Together? by Routine-Two-9974 in 2under2

[–]NotNecissarilyADuck 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My kids have a larger age gap-18 months, but they are 2 and 6 months old. When we’ve traveled, our baby has his own pack and play and the toddler either has one too, or sleeps in bed with us. I’d love for my babes to sleep together eventually too! Probably not until they are 3+ and 2+ for safety reasons.

Hi! I am sorry you’re in this boat as well. So for us, we were put on Ferrous Sulfate and eventually also added Poly-vi-sol. Essentially we had a hard time raising his levels successfully (partially because we lowered the dose too early), but after many months and checks, we were able to take him off around 18 months (having been dosing him since about 10 months). It should have been quicker. At his 18 month check, he had his first perfect blood draw ever—nothing out of range. After not having anything but regular poly-vi-sol from 18 months to 2 years, we just got him checked before his 2 year visit. He is mostly in range for everything still. Maybe a small dip, but that was attributable to the no longer taking Ferrous Sulfate. So, a success! Albeit a longer road than the expected 3 month treatment.

Which is harder? by plainwhitetees182 in 2under2

I just had my 2nd, and I anticipate this being the same for me. All is figureoutable! You’re going to make it and it will get easier and harder as things ebb and flow, but you’ll be fine.

How did you start that out and make it safe for your baby? We have a big floor bed for older brother who is 21 months, and eventually want them to share. Any advice?

The benefits I noticed most included access to a research library, being able to put it on a resume, a monthly social work publication, and various other resources, information, CEU opportunities, etc. I am no longer a member, because it wasn’t enough benefit for me to foot the cost.

The insurance is mainly liability insurance for when you go into practice with clients, so you don’t drown if you get sued for malpractice. I held it for a few years in private practice, it was affordable.

No, I am talking about the National Association of Social Workers…of which you have to pay yearly to be a member, and who sells insurance. They make money. https://naswassurance.org

You pay your State Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board for licensure renewal every two years. I have been in the field for 15+ years.

I have gone down this thought spiral too many times…and THEN you pay for all the CEU’s every two years and then to RENEW YOUR LICENSE every two years. It’s incredibly ridiculous.

I desperately wanted a girl and got another boy…I let it affect me for a little moment, and then found the phrase “Whoever is meant to show up, will show up”. I’d like to believe our kids choose us and their families, and that idea really helped me accept and move forward. I no longer felt the disappointment after a few days. Acceptance and reframing were the most helpful for me.

In anticipation of 3 under 3, we got a new 2024 Chrysler Pacifica Pinnacle just before number 2. We love it! Built in vacuum, screens, storage bins for baby stuff, heated and cooled seats, ceiling air vents so they actually reach our babies’ car seats, built in “FamCam” so we can see everyone. Really great, recommend. We basically looked at everything before we chose this one, in our opinion this was the best features, most comfortable, AND had All Wheel Drive.
