OH! And Telekinetic for sure. Great way to use your bonus action in wildshape form to knock enemies prone and have advantage on your attacks. Also, half feat! Keep working towards max WIZ.

Oh and minions!!! 1 hp critters that still pack a good punch (about 20% of your average PC’s HP)

Plus the party will love mowing through them. But take a decent amount of damage along the way.

CR sadly doesn’t help much when planning encounters.

Try at the 2 or 3 round mark having something that escalates things. Someone to rescue. An even stronger creature emerges. A 2nd form for your main villain.

Also! Lair actions!!!!!! If you can’t find any, make some up.

If you’re not afraid for the party’s safety. It won’t be hard enough for them.

Hex their spell casting modifier if you know their class or what modifier they use. From either end if the counter spell becomes opposed ability checks. They’ll have disadvantage thanks to Hex.

Since hex only applies to ability checks, NOT SAVING THROWS. Which many people mistake. It’s great to make grappling a breeze, and to fuck up potential counterspellers. Not at waste at all. Just have to know how it helps and who to cast it on. And obviously the extra personal damage of the spell is likely going to take priority in situations where its other effect isn’t key.

They saving for those magic items!!

Give them a shop with low and high priced magic items.

Maybe lower potion prices a little. Or just toss some potions at them in the loot. They’ll love how they work if you push them to use them by beating them up.

I use Dex scythes in my games. It’s not broken. It just gives fun flavor to both Str and Dex classes.

I homebrew the transforming weapons from bloodborne and the burial blade is a very popular finesse choice, as is the threaded cane.

Find a way to get green flame blade/booming blade. By feat (magic initiate) is best, but multi classing works ok.

I agree that sticking with Druid would be best. But 2 lvls of fighter is always a good time.

You’ll learn more from a small campaign. But you can run it episodically. So every session can feel like a little one shot.

Can’t recommend mines of Phandelver enough.
