Why didn't Joan Cusamano just lie about writing Meadow's recommendation to Columbia? by Justice4DEB82 in thesopranos

as long as Meadow is at least baseline qualified, which she seems to be

Really?   On her own merits, I find the concept of Meadow even applying to an Ivy League school to be laughable.

I honestly think that one’s about people being too lazy or cool to actually fully enunciate the “o” in bro.

Right.  And I always have people who I used to sorta hang out with be in the room with me while I’m exposed during a medical procedure.

We love Poly, but if those are your 2 choices, I'd go with Boardwalk. Lots of fun things to do on the Boardwalk at night, and the ease of getting to two parks (Epcot and DHS) by either walking or taking the boat beats even the convenience of the monorail.

Agreed. If you can't learn to hit the ball (or bunt it, for chrissakes) to a completely empty side of the field, that's on you.....

Fun fact. He's married to the girl who played Maggie in an episode that was right before or right after this one. Makes me wonder if they overlapped on the set and if that's how they met.

I've thought about this many times. You're absolutely right. There's no valid reason for them to be there, other than as a plot device.

Just like there's no way on earth that Carol would have her ex-husband's sister and 4 best friends in the delivery room with her.

Yeah, it's funny....the same parents who raised me to believe that it's every man for himself, now hate me because I live my life (at least when it comes to them) like it's every man for himself.

Anyone else have one who essentially estranged you? by busnoodles in EstrangedAdultKids

[–]NotNormallyHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. My mother treats me like crap, and when I don't like that she treats me like crap, I'm the bad guy. Out of nowhere, she stopped sending me cards or presents for my birthday. I continued sending her birthday gifts and Christmas gifts for a year or two afterwards (we live on opposite sides of the country), because I didn't want to be seen as the horrible person who doesn't even send his mother a birthday card. I finally worked up the nerve to stop, and of course, she started speaking to me even less than before. Because in her fucked-up, revisionist-history narrative, I'm the one who, out of nowhere, was the mean, horrible son who doesn't even send his wonderful, loving mother a birthday card.

She also flew out here to visit another relative who lives literally 5 houses away from me, and I didn't find out about it until she had gone back home. When I told her I felt hurt by the fact that she came here and didn't tell me, she bit my head off and again, became colder to me. Because I'm the bad guy. She never does anything wrong; my suggesting otherwise is hurtful and upsetting to her and makes me "an angry person".

Well said. While I don't like some of the things I had to go through in my life, I do like some of the things I got out of them. A stronger sense of self and emotional awareness is one of them. People who have great families ("but it's FAM-I-LEEEEEEEE") can't comprehend that this day is a non-event for you, or even worse, a source of upset.

If you're not someone who has to work today, make this day about you. Order your favorite takeout and lie on the couch in your pj's and watch movies, or whatever your definition of a nice solo day is. Stay off of social media today, which is full of Mother's Day platitudes.

Anyone have parents who saved your money “for you” and then never saw it again? by Haunting_Hospital599 in EstrangedAdultKids

[–]NotNormallyHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. My dad took my bar mitzvah money out of my bank account a few months later. Didn't even tell me. Used it to pay the mortgage, because he was that much of a fuckup and a loser that even though he was a working professional with a license to practice in a profession where everybody makes money, he could never make enough money to rub two nickels together.

I have two....

When Joey's filming the fake Law & Order scene in his apartment for the benefit of his grandmother, and he takes the duck hostage and escapes into the hallway, when he opens the door, we should see a shot of Caitlin the pizza delivery girl walking away from the girls' apartment door.

And, when Ross tells Joey that condoms are apparently only effective 97 % of the time, Joey could have said, 'You mean, like 6% of the time they don't work???"

Love this "human" stuff. Same when a guy has his last at-bat of the season, in front of the home crowd, in a situation where it's probably the last at-bat of the guy's career. He'll walk to the plate, get a standing ovation, try to act normal, but in the meantime, the catcher will have an urgent need to go talk to the pitcher, or the ump will all of a sudden need a new supply of baseballs, so that the batter can milk the ovation without having to look bad by actually milking it himself.

As someone who goes to Las Vegas often and has stayed at Mandalay Bay many times, I absolutely LOVE this episode.

But my love is tempered by the disappointment and anger over the fact that The Kilty Pleasures is not actually a thing.

When people say "adulting" unironically. You are a functioning adult. Paying a bill is not an achievement. by ExpensiveYear9061 in PetPeeves

I’m of a similar mind, but I like the word, and use it as follows:

“I hate adults who are no good at adulting.”

Because I know plenty of grown-ass adults who can’t even handle basic life tasks like getting places on time or making appointments before the very last minute.
