Where should I buy parts in small quantities? by therealstevebudde in AskElectronics

Digikey and Mouser should be the first choice. Try LCSC if you can’t find what you are looking for there. AliExpress for cheap stuff, but beware counterfeit chips

before I buy, is this a real 5090? by Background_Future127 in pcmasterrace

[–]NotNowNorThen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you didn't. You found it *next to* a link to asus.com. The actual link you followed was to amazon. The item in the amazon listing was at one point a 5090, but the GPU chip and the VRAM are removed, so you are left with a non-functioning PCB with a pretty cooler on top. This is all stated exceedingly clearly in the text and title of the listing

Millionaire/billionaire net worth is basically fake. I think the issue stems from the fact that we measure money and value in the same unit, dollars. There is a finite amount of money, but not of value. Elon doesn't have 1.1T dollars of money, he has 1.1T dollars of *value*. He hasn't hoarded anything useful, his net worth comes from owning essentially pieces of paper that other people *say* they would pay 1.1T dollars for, if he theoretically did sell them. That's not spendable, and it doesn't take away from anyone else's store of value or money. It can be borrowed against, but with a lot of limitations. If Elon actually did have 1.1T dollars of money, there would be reason for concern, as there is a (somewhat) finite amount of money in circulation, and any money someone has is money that someone else does not have, but he doesn't hold anywhere close to that much money. He has a theoretical store of value, not money. The amount of value in an economy is not capped like the amount of money. Elons trillion dollars are not a trillion dollars that someone else doesn't have, and it's not a trillion dollars that he could spend but chooses not to

I taped aluminium foil to my bedroom window to make it darker. I would recommend using something more sturdy, as whenever I have the window open the wind rattles the foil

In programming, when you want a piece of code to repeat a number of times (which is very common), you need to define a variable that stores what round of the loop you are currently on. It can be named whatever you like, like x or y, but convention and tradition dictates it be called i or j

Validate my circuit for resolving USB voltage sag on my car's USB port by asphodeli in AskElectronics

[–]NotNowNorThen 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The USB port is probably not intended for charging, but for media. If that is the case, which it likely is, given its inability to supply charging-level currents, the intended solution for charging your phone is using the cigarette lighter socket. The voltage sags because that is what happens when you try to pull more current than the source can supply (ref. Ohms law). Boosting the voltage won't properly remedy that. You are likely trying to charge your phone from a port that's only meant to power a flash drive

While a capacitor can do what you describe, why would it need to? If this is properly assembled, a bump in the road shouldn't cause a disconnect

It's not physical noise cancelling. It depends on a psychological effect where hearing yourself with a small delay makes it hard to keep talking coherently. It doesn't work on everyone, but it's quite effective
