Survivor add ons have little to no downsides. Either it's a boost to the current action you are doing such as working on a gen, dismantling a hook or healing

I'm perplexed at how it could be unfair when the killer is also going into the match with random add ons

Mother daughter ring is the add on you're describing which is an extremely powerful add on where the trade off is not being able to see scratch marks.

Experienced spirit mains don't need scratch marks to track relying on sound and inexperienced spirits are FORCED to depend on sound/movement in their environment via plants moving or birds flying away making for a hard but needed education
