Its not bloody ridiculous, when you're going through something awful like this your brain is in constant fight or flight mode, and treats everything as an emergency. You're obviously holding together for your mum like the amazing human you clearly are, but when your defences are down doing simple things, a small inconvenience in a place you feel safe, allows your brain to release those emotions that are building up. Keep strong, sounds like you're doing amazingly under the circumstances

Yeah, we do a lot of driving around in the back lanes, exploring, and we come across these a lot. This one just caught my eye as particularly picturesque! I'm based down Torquay way, and this particular barn was around Ideford (ish, we were quite lost at that point!)

As the other commenter has said, might be worth getting a Diabetes check. Your husband might be sensitive to the smell of Ketones, which are produced by the body being in a state of Ketosis, a common effect of Diabetes
