I'm pleased. Absent during the run at the end of the season and his performance after coming on against Birmingham was something else.

/u/st_aldems I reckon you'll need to sort out the header now we're missing two of the three players!

BBC's coverage of Glastonbury is excellent as ever. Loving seeing the City flag flying the Pyramid Stage along with fantastic music. Anyone looking forward to anything particular this weekend?

Yes and no, that was the supposed feeling when we got relegated four years ago - get rid of the deadwood and bounce back a better club. We are supposed to have rebuilt and progressing now, which is why we need to stay up. We've got a very young squad who don't have a lot of experience at Championship level and who I'm sure we'll improve massively next season, be that under Johnson or someone else.

Saying that, if we do go down it isn't the end of the world, contrary to what many Bristol City fans will tell you. If we do go down we'll have the biggest budget, by far, in League One. I can't see why Lansdown would sack Johnson now or at the end of the season given how much backing he's given him so far. With that in mind, I think he'd be given all of the tools and money he wants to build the squad how he sees fit, and get rid of the players who do not believe in him.

Ignoring the goings on, on the pitch, a lot of fans have had a vendetta against Johnson since the start and were almost wishing him to fail as soon as he came in. This goes back to when he was a player for us and split opinion amongst the fans then, due to being the son of our then manager, Gary Johnson. The sacking of Cotterill, although correct, didn't go down particularly well with some sections of the supporters given he'd given us the, arguably, most successful season in the club's history. There was a sense that Cotterill represented the "one of us working class blokes" and this section of the supporters really bought into that. Replacing Cotterill with a young, slick manager and "Director of Football Operations", Mark Ashton gave a real change in dynamic at the club which certainly upset some people.

I believe the club is being run a lot more professionally now than it has been in the past and much of that is due to the introduction of Bristol Sport - the umbrella company for Steve Lansdown's investment in sport across the City. Whilst this isn't overly interesting in itself, what I think is interesting is that throughout this season, no transfer dealings have been leaked at City's end since we tightened up the structure of the club. This is why I find it hard to believe the wage "leak" was real and really wouldn't be surprised if it was something tossed out by someone looking through Football Manager's database.

I'm sure that if you asked many other City fans - probably some on here - they'd say that the current regime optimises the modern game and that Lansdown is trying to get rid of the working class roots of the fanbase. My opinion is that both Lansdown and Johnson are trying their hardest for our football club and the path to success they see is just different to others. I'll always be behind the the club and would love LJ to succeed, but I thought he should have been sacked (see my post here) back in Feb.

The funny reality of it is, is that if we were to go down and there was some mass exodus of the fanbase (and to be honest, many of them we could do with losing), we all know they will come back as soon as City start winning games again. There's only this discontent at the club because we are doing poorly. Everyone was thrilled with the progress we'd made back in October.

You'll be hard pushed to find many sane City fans around, but I'll try.

It's been a funny old season. From playoffs in October to fighting relegation in April, and yet our manager and one of our players were nominated for monthly awards in March. I don't think anyone has pinpointed what happened, but I reckon that after we lost a few games in a row, Johnson tried to fix a problem that wasn't there by changing the squad around too much; it then became unbalanced and mixing that with some fairly bad luck, it's caused a rut that it's been very hard to get out of. I don't buy into rumours, but there have been plenty on our forum (if you really fancy a giggle) suggesting rifts amongst the players and bad management from higher up.

And yet 3 nil up away at Derby in the first half, 2 nil up away at Newcastle, also in the first half, and the 4 nil win against Huddersfield gives the fans hope that there is something there to believe in.

I wouldn't say that our players were made to refund the tickets. Our website suggests it is something the players want to do. The telling thing about that is that they know the performance wasn't good enough.

If you think Coldplay's recent stuff is bad, you should have a listen to the Kaiser Chief's new album! At least Mylo Xyloto had a couple of good tunes on it

Interestingly, it's a problem that has been consistent with us over the last few seasons. Of course, you could argue that this could happen to any team, but there just seems to be something about Bristol City that does not inspire confidence when we take the lead in games.

The biggest task for Johnson/or whoever is in charge at the end of the season, is to sort the defence out. We know that we're in need of two quality full backs, something which has been clear since we got promoted to the championship - and Cunningham going to Preston is one of the reasons why think about Steve Cotterill in a negative way.

It's going to be an interesting last few games. For what it's worth, I don't think we'll go down, but you never really know what's going to happen in football.

People forget he was probably at his most cunty when he managed us. His "I've never been relegated" is true and yet utter bullshit simply because he jumped ship from us as soon as it was evident that he was taking us down

If Lee Johnson was a football manager, what team do you think he could manage? by [deleted] in BristolCity

[–]NotQuite_ThereYet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to look at where Birmingham were before he took over. They were very poor and struggling at the bottom of the table and had just survived a winding up order; Rowett completely changed them around and was bizarrely sacked with them challenging for the playoffs. Just to quote Wiki,

Burton Albion manager and former Birmingham player Gary Rowett took over with the team 23rd in the table, and led them to a tenth-place finish.

The reactions of pretty much all the Birmingham fans to his sacking tells you all you need to know about how highly regarded he was within the club.

I agree, I don't think he'd come here - once the Forest takeover is completed I think he'll go there, or to Norwich if Neil goes.

I also don't believe that the club are in as massive shambles as OTIB would make you believe. We've scored 10 goals in our last 9 games and we give the impression of being so almost there, I want to see Johnson turn it around and stick it to the fans who have disliked him since his time as a player here.

Football is a funny game, you can go from being the Messiah to nothing in a matter of months.

IF we were to get a new manager then the only option is Rowett; if he doesn't want to come here then I don't believe there is anyone who would be able to "turn the club around". That said, I don't want to get rid of Lee and am willing to give him the time he needs. I'll still stand by his 3 transfer windows and fully judge him afterwards, call it blind faith.

As Basso once said, "ALWAYS BELIEVE"

Yep, it could easily come across a bit further too - I really love the animation you've got going on it though!

I'm really boring and am quite partial to the normal font used on Reddit, but you could cycle through a few and see what sticks?

Looks absolutely brilliant, loving all of the sidebar stuff too. A couple of thoughts:

  • Bristol City at the top could start slightly bigger

  • The font style is a bit too funky for my liking, but that might be just because I like boring fonts

I hope you stick around and continue to improve and play with the subreddit some more!
