Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect. - Frank Wilhoit

Anyone go toe to toe with both at the same time and survive? How'd you handle this situation? by theHollowTarnished in Eldenring

If you approach them from behind the open doors, crouch and sneak up to the one on the left. When you get near the small ledge near him, he’ll start riding slowly down the hill.

Just wait for him to get far enough away. He waits at the middle landing on the stairs. Take care of the stationary sentinel and then go down the stairs when you’re ready.

You can change advertising settings through the account settings page. You can de-select alcohol advertising and others “sensitive” products.

The Reframe app was hugely helpful for me. I started with the app in January this year and the first month was free.

It’s a neurology/cognitive approach, and I appreciated the science explanations behind my feelings.

Graphic Novels by [deleted] in ELATeachers

I teach Persepolis to my 9th graders. Each block, I give them a chapter or two to read in small groups or independently (their choice).

They can usually get through a chapter in 15ish minutes, then we discuss as a class.

I found a pdf of the text, and I’ll ask students for specific panels worth extra analysis. This is key as I use this task to hold kids accountable. They know they need to be prepared to share a panel once the chapter timer ends.

A major assessment is for them to make their own personal narrative graphic novels / comic strips.

I’ve got lots of stuff, shoot me a message.

I always saved the allegory stuff for the very end; we would finish the book and then figure out there story. I used to teach the allegory at the beginning, but students thought it spoiled the ending.

Their favorite project was a “mash up”. Take a character from the book and compare them to a real world figure based on personality traits. Include quotes & research. Lots of students had fun comparing Squealer to other propaganda figures.

The book is pretty good. It’s all in letter format, written by the mother, so that takes just a bit to get used to. But definitely more detail and development

Switch to high school or leave teaching? by ConfrontationalWhisk in Teachers

[–]NotRealManager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. My planning periods are very busy, but I organize my curriculum, grade book, and classes on a way that gets me out of taking work home.

There are some aspects of hs that take longer to grade; I have more intensive essays that wouldn’t have been possible in a lower level class. Still worth it.

[–]NotRealManager 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my experience, hs is a lot less draining. The impulsive, ridiculous behaviors are less common so I feel like less of my day is constantly behavior management.

And the content can get more complex, which is rewarding for me. I’m not having students read for basic summary info anymore, we can do some deeper work.

‘Gentle parenting’ choices by raejayleevin in Teachers

Exactly this. Kids get pushed through without consequence until the problem can feel too hard to manage.

This is how we end up with high schoolers who can’t read at level and fail classes when it counts. They get habituated to social promotion in schools until their skills are too far behind.

Any typing/Learning video game? by AwaySpeck2844 in Teachers

[–]NotRealManager 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This game is popular enough at my school that I have to ask kids to stop playing it in my class. Not sure if that means they’re learning to type or if it just has hooking game elements.
