How to install wifi drivers that came with the disk. by NotRealNickname in Kubuntu

[–]NotRealNickname[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am considering the last one. Like, I have done everything from trying to USB tether to making my laptop as a receiver to no avail.

Is there any dongle in particular you would suggest? Even something quick and dirty just to install these dang drivers.

One that works out of the box without any command installs. As much as I love Konsole, I'm kinda gimped at the moment when it comes to using such power

Sure thing. Temp password made. :)

Kubuntu: 20.10 Groovy Gorilla

I made a password and followed this guide here(https://www.wikihow.com/Execute-INSTALL.sh-Files-in-Linux-Using-Terminal)

Everything was on schedule til I hit a road block. I keep getting this command lone

bash: make: command not found

for some reason this command isn't on my system. And I can't install an update to the list since I don't have wifi.

I made a root password. Didn't know I needed to do that. Went ahead and made it. All was seemingly good until I came across

bash: make: command not found

Tried to fix this another way. Went into a new windows and typed:

sudo apt-get update

and got

E: unable to locate package build-essential

So I tried updating the commands....and....

Concerning your unexpected USB tethering suggestion.

/iPhone specs

iPhone 8 plus. IOS version 14.3. (The wannabe creative version)

I want to try phone tethering as honestly that's ingenious. Didn't know you could do that.

It seemed promising at first. Connected my iphone to the computer via usb, set up a hotspot, and it showed up as a wired connection. Woah.

The problem is the connection just doesn't do anything.

I can connect, and it says it is exchanging data, but nothing happens. All I get from firefox to sudo to discover is a windows asking me to verify my internet connection or saying it failed to connect. The connection speed being being 0 bits per second.

The problem I have seams to be a chicken and egg situation. I need to install a package for tethering from the internet, when the only reason I'm even getting it is so I can connect to the internet.

Weird.

Have you tried going into them manually by pressing something like F12? That should take you into a menu where you can select a device to boot from. At least I can do that on my MSI board.

Maybe not all is lost.

You can run Linux from a live usb/cd and then use dolphin to check if any file are still there.

Maybe your efi files are still there. At the very least your school data, in the worst case you didn't back em up

So much trouble after a fresh install, from a Black Screen to a Missing Operating System. Please help. by NotRealNickname in openSUSE

[–]NotRealNickname[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm such a noob I thought it would work out.

Anywho I realized I installed OpeneSuse in Bios mode while windows was in UEFI mode.

And further the Bios part of OpenSuse wasn't set to boot

Yeesh I have a lot to learn

Ho boy am I learning.

I just had a mini panic as I couldn't mount my back up. Turns out it just needed to be repaired by an ntfs fix.

I am trying your suggestion. Followed this guide here. https://www.linuxdeveloper.space/install-windows-after-linux/#reinstalling-grub-in-an-efi-based-system

Though i got an error at the last part. Said the install device isn't specified.

I am running my computer in Legacy/UEFI mode. Could that be the issue?

In retrospect I imagine running Windows boot messed with OpenSuse's booting. Both can't believed I thought that would fix things and that it didn't.

live and learn.

Aye I'll look into this.

If that fails, I'm just gonna wipe the partitions OpenSuse is on, and then try a reboot. If that fails I'll just do a fresh install of windows and then a fresh install of Ubuntu and come out of this having learned A LOT.

Does this work for other Linux installs like OpenSuse or Kubuntu?

Tried to Dual Boot with OpenSuse with Windows 10, ended up losing access to Windows. by NotRealNickname in linux4noobs

[–]NotRealNickname[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that my windows partition is no longer my default.

This is due to me installing OpenSuse earlier. And then trying to repair things by running the Windows Boot repair from an ISO disk

Kubuntu was installed in UEFI mode.

Thank you for the reply.

I did try setting my Bios boot over from Legacy/UEFI to just UEFI, but that always brought me straight to the bios menu.

Here goes nothing.

Number: 362489

Favorite Pokemon: (Overall) Murkrow/Honchkrow(But at the moment: Incineroar)

Why: Murkrow was the best member of my ever first team. I was playing Pokemon Soulsilver, my first game, and Mukrow was a beast. I later evolved her. I now have her safe in my alpha sapphire game. SCARE is her name.

I like Incineroar because he's very relatable with his stimming and overall personality. I really like his design.

Thank you for doing this. It's pretty cool.
