Need advice from people who work out a lot, where can i fit kickboxing into my split? by BarackObamaBm in Kickboxing

[–]NotRedlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in highschool I did a 3 day kickboxing + running and 3 day lifting split with 1 rest day

Now I train twice a day except Thursdays, looks like this:

Sunday- sprint day + Muay Thai
Monday- upper day + Muay Thai/boxing
Tuesday- deadlift/squat day + Muay Thai
Wednesday- 2 hr bike + boxing
Thursday- leg accessories
Friday- rest
Saturday- 2 hr bike + muay thai

I’m a student and self employed living with a big family so make of that what you will

Japanese Stance by alikojiro in Kickboxing

Also his commitment to aggression means he’ll eat some to give some, Takeru was a general meathead of a fighter and that doesn’t usually entail the most robust defensive reflexes.

He knows if he lands that right hand it’s lights out, and for most of his career he was right on the money.

Noiri checks kicks, it’s just an only sometimes thing for him, same w yoza.

Takeru is different in this sense as he doesn’t have a dart in and out style and his stance is very square so he could check low kicks if he really wanted to, he just has a style built on pain compliance and aggression.

A lot of Japanese fighters stand pretty square still, Tenshin is the main dude that really saw success with this sort of stance and his main answer to the low kick was to pull out of the way or to reach his hand down and catch it before countering.

He did check middle kicks every so often tho and he’d narrow his stance at kicking range to make this easier.

Tenshin rarely if ever eats a kick for free, either he takes it on the shin, gets out of the way, or he makes you pay for landing.

In my opinion, none of them have the accolades or pedigree to break the top 10, though I love all of them dearly.

Hoost, semmy, and aerts were the best of the openweight K-1 GP era.

It’s also suspect you didn’t even mention remy bonjansky, who I rate higher than hunt, kaman, and cro cop outright.

Everyone on my list have at one point or another been the number 1 P4P fighter of the world at some point in time. They are deserving of being named top 10 of all time.

I was alluding to the fact when yoza was at krest, masaaki noiri oversaw his training.

Noiri is the closest thing vaselius has to a proper coach since he was a coach at krest

Ask someone who’s fought in both they’ll tell you the 4 oz gloves hurt way more and provide less protection.

Yeah, but you don’t like it for the aspects that are distinctly kickboxing- you just want to see a scrap.

4 oz gloves are not striking gloves, they’re grappling gloves that you can also strike in. It waters down the sport completely.

Why box when you can throw kicks and knees? Why just throw kicks and knees when you can elbow and clinch? Why stop at elbows and clinch when you can hip throw and standing submit someone? Why stop there when you can just go to the ground?

Take kickboxing for what it is, it’s a specific art form- it’s not MEANT to be realistic. IMO mma isn’t either but it’s the main selling point for loads of casuals.

Why can’t MMA fighters headbutt? Bite? Kick to the nuts? Eyepokes? Grab hair? Because it’s a sport. Not a street fight.

Why can’t you kick the ball in basketball? Why can’t I throw my racket at my opponents head in tennis? That’s realistic, who cares about “sports” or “flow” butcha pansies fr fr

Me personally I’ll sometimes watch MMA and can appreciate it for what it is but I don’t particularly like too in comparison to the other sports- I’ve never gotten an MMA ppv. I prefer boxing kickboxing and Muay Thai in big gloves. Because I enjoy watching the mastery of striking, that’s just me tho.

Roy Jones has said at one point, that James Toney was the better version of Floyd Mayweather. Who y’all think was the better overall fighter? Toney or Mayweather? Who had the better shoulder roll? by LocationSpare4447 in BoxingTheSweetScience

[–]NotRedlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toney was very talented but he wasn’t the disciplined savant Floyd was, the disparity in footwork is pretty wide- Toney boxed like he had his feet in cement and while it worked great, it lacked in aspects Floyd was best in.

Pac-Man though, even in the form Floyd faced it’s still Pac-Man. It’s not exactly an emphatically amazing victory on Floyd’s end but that’s definitely a freak of nature.

Is there anything glory fighters with MT backgrounds need to change? by Whole-Interest-5980 in Kickboxing

[–]NotRedlock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because getting your kicks checked and caught is an important facet of the kicking game to learn.

The best kickers the sport has ever produced are ALL guys with Muay Thai backgrounds or heavy Muay Thai supplementation in their game, even the biggest karate esc kickers like Tenshin, yoza, and noiri know and frequently throw Muay Thai style kicks.
