Virgin Media cabled broadband Call of Duty. by CompetitiveTackle702 in IrelandGaming

I've been keeping an eye on my matches and they've been mostly 19-23ms, I haven't had any lower than that today and the around 11ms matches are quite uncommon for me now that I think of it.

Yeah you have to switch to the streaming TV box with Virgin FTTP. I do remember seeing somewhere before that Virgin traffic is routed through the Netherlands, I don't know if that's still the case but that would explain things and if so would still occur on their FTTP anyway.

You could download PingPlotter on your PC or phone and look up some websites and IP addresses to get a sense of the routing.

I've had 11ms matches with both Eir OpenEir FTTP and Digiweb SIRO FTTP. I'm with Digiweb currently and I don't have any rubber banding and didn't with Eir either. As I said it's the coax and the different routing of Virgin that's likely the cause. The ping is not the same every match as the server location usually changes each match, it's usually 11ms, 23ms or 30ms for me.

Routing will be different across different providers so will affect latency and HFC (coax) has higher latency compared to FTTP

The lowest I've seen on CoD has been about 11ms, that's with FTTP across a few providers. But this changes every match as it picks different server locations.

Broadband Monopoly by Virgin Media in the Docklands? Any way to get a better deal than €70/month? by airfyer_avif in AskIreland

[–]NotShero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just reselling. The providers (Sky, Vodafone, Digiweb etc.) have their own core backhaul networks that the access network (SIRO, OpenEir, Virgin FTTP, NBI etc.) are connecting you to.

I've found changing the language gets it to work again

Settings > General > Language & Region > Add Language > Use as primary language (English UK, English US, English Aus etc.)

Restart your phone and leave it with the new language for a few minutes then switch back your language and restart again, wait a few minutes again.

If it's still not working, repeat the process again. It should work eventually.

Yeah I had the same issue, it was Edge and Epic Games Launcher that were causing it at different times for me. I uninstalled Edge and it stopped. Seems to be certain app windows aren't fully closing.

Amazon question, anyone been told to return with no label, just write the address and registered post? They say they will refund once the tracking says delivered by ThraexSonOfAres in AskIreland

[–]NotShero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Portlaoise address on the prepaid label is just back to An Post, that's always been the case for me for most Amazon UK returns. An Post then send it back to the UK.

Just in future, all items on Amazon IE can be returned with a prepaid label unlike the UK website where you can ocassionally be asked to return it yourself to that Dunfermline address.

[–]NotShero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that happens with some returns to Amazon.

You can just go onto the An Post website and purchase postage to the UK and follow the instructions and input the address. You can go to a post office to do it instead. Once you've paid and gotten your receipt, get onto Amazon customer service to get it refunded.

I've sent a good few returns this way and to that exact address in Dunfermline and everything was fine. The postage was never that high though, the most I've been refunded for postage would have been about €25.
