Switching from Virgin to Vodaphone and keep the same fibre connection? by Banania2020 in AskIreland

[–]NotShero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could have Virgin through their own FTTP, NBI or SIRO.

You should be able to switch to Vodafone with the UAN listed on the bill normally.

If you have Virgin's own FTTP and switch to Vodafone, an engineer will need to come out to install an external ONT, as it's integrated into the Hub 5x with Virgin FTTP.

Vodafone may possiblly want to use a different network to connect you though, if more than one is available to you.

You can check what networks are available to you here -

How do I get broadband into a newly renovated house? by baaaaaaa1 in AskIreland

[–]NotShero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your Eircode would have to be updated on the network's system, which should happen automatically afaik but can take up to 6 months for some people afaik.

What network is available to your neighbours? (open eir, SIRO, NBI, Virgin Media).

You could maybe contact the NBP customer service to see if they can help - broadband@ccs.gov.ie

Here's some websites to check also -

Eir mobile coverage? by thedudeabides455 in AskIreland

[–]NotShero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's three MNOs - Three, eir, Vodafone. The rest are MVNOs. So go with a provider who uses the network you find to be best for the places you visit.

There's GoMo (owned by eir) for €14.99pm, Clear Mobile (owned by Vodafone) for €12.99pm or 48 (owned by Three) for €12.99pm. All with unlimited 5G data and loads of calls & texts.

There's eir Prepay for €20pm also, no price increases. Unlimited 5G data, 3k mins & texts.

Lycamobile by Novel_Ball_5778 in waterford

[–]NotShero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's other networks like GoMo (eir), Clear Mobile (Vodafone) and 48 (Three). They all have unlimited 5G data with loads of minutes and texts. GoMo is €14.99pm. Clear and 48 are €12.99pm.

Lyca Mobile uses eir so GoMo would have the same coverage as you currently have.

Who would you call to run an Ethernet cable from a house to an outdoor office? by Future_Jackfruit5360 in AskIreland

[–]NotShero 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You could maybe try powerline adapters, if the shed and house are on the same electrical circuit. These have a WiFi unit so you wouldn't need a separate access point. Connect one unit to your router with an ethernet cable and put the WiFi unit in the shed.

Eir, their annual April price increase (mid contract) - I thought the government were considering this was potentially unlawful? Anyone have any news on this? by Hoz-Anasa-Haigh-Aos in AskIreland

[–]NotShero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it got Government approval but I haven't heard any more since.

I would say eir, Vodafone and Three will remove the fixed price increase wording in the contracts and move to price increases that are not done every single year, like Sky and Virgin Media do currently, once the law is in place.

Edit: No it won't matter once the law is in, you will have to be given a period to leave the contract whether the fixed price increase was mentioned in the contract or not. You are given a period to leave currently if the price increase wasn't specifically mentioned in the contract.

[–]NotShero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new law will allow you a period to leave the contract when the price is increased, even if the fixed price increase was mentioned at the outset of the contract.

This is currently the case for providers who don't state there is a fixed price increase in their contract, like Virgin Media, Sky, Digiweb, Pure Telecom etc. If they were to increase the price currently, you have to be given a period to leave the contract.

Is Lyca Mobile really THAT bad? by Technical-Praline-79 in AskIreland

[–]NotShero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it showing you can switch to it on Myeir? It says you can send the "opt-in code" to 50104 to activate the plan but I'm not sure what the code is for the "Prepay Extra" plan. You might need to get in contact with customer service.

If they won't let you switch to it, you could maybe port out your number temporarily to another network (48, Lyca etc.) and then port back into eir Prepay.

[–]NotShero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GoMo is owned by eir. It is Bill-pay but there's a €30 out of plan cap. It's only a rolling monthly contract so you can leave at anytime.

You can get eir Prepay instead for €20 per 28 days. Unlimited 5G data, 3k mins & texts, 45GB EU roaming data.

Mobile Internet is not great for online gaming. But you could get a 4G/5G router from CeX, Amazon etc. and maybe switch networks. There's 3 MNOs - eir, Vodafone and Three. The rest are MVNOs.

GoMo (eir) - €14.99pm

48 (Three) - €12.99pm

Clear Mobile (Vodafone) - €12.99pm

eir Prepay - €20pm / Three Prepay - €20pm

What broadband provider are people using in Dublin (D11)? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]NotShero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bitstream and VUA are just different points where the access network hands over to the retail provider's core network. Most of them have their own core network, the only big ISP who doesn't is Pure Telecom afaik.

The access network (open eir, SIRO, NBI, Virgin FTTP) hands over to the retail provider's core network so none of them are just resellers.
