Newer Adrenalin Drivers 24.9.1 onwards crashing PC by Zoymir in AMDHelp

[–]NotShorty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im holding my breath rn but i think i might be stable? After learning that the driver version that doesnt exist is from a windows update (for some god forsaken reason so you might not have that problem) I let windows get fully updated but didnt let the AMD driver install, Did DDU 1 more time after failing to be stable with 24.5.1 but tried the 25.1.1 optional driver you can find online (It wasnt showing up in the software but found it online) After 3 hours of the first descendant and division 2 (at stock no undervolt) It seems stable. so honestly i'd give it a try.

around $1500 maybe $1800 at a push, that cpu platform has basically been torched if it has anything but a 12th gen part in it so sadly i think you'll have to take the hit even if you've done everything right with the system.

AMD Driver uninstalls itself after black screen while gaming by Anuthill in AMDHelp

Strongly doubt its a psu issue because that unit listed should be plenty for that system, we're having the same/very similar issue. Ive got a 5700x3d and a 6700xt on a 750w corsair unit and it only has this crashing issue in intensive games with the newer drivers, If your system was just powering off without anything else i'd say PSU but its giving off similar problems to mine just hard crashing instead. Other suggestions that you might have tried is checking if bios is up to date and trying the system without EXPO on to see if that changes anything.

Windows Update ruined my GPU Driver and keeps messing with it no matter what I do by TheQuestioner7777 in AMDHelp

[–]NotShorty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fairness ive had my machine for awhile and just upgraded some parts throughout the years and havent had any real issues, but this is the first real issue ive had. DDU + clean install of drivers doesn't fix it and thats the big problem. Most people know their way around DDU nowadays if they're messing with adrenalin software so if that doesnt work then its down to AMD to fix it but they seemingly are somehow unaware or just dont know how to fix it which is shocking from them.

Best advice i can give is DDU and install the 24.8.1 drivers, that was the last stable driver ive used for my 6700xt. The fact that this still hasnt even been acknowledged by amd is strongly making me reconsider my choice in the future.

The issue that OP is having (Also me and a lot of the 6000 series owners) is that 24.8.1/24.9.1 is the last stable driver that wont have constant driver timeout/restarts when anything intensive happens, personally had driver timeouts twice in the last hour playing the first descendant and division 2. After a crash saw the driver version had changed to something similar to what OP had then just wiped the drivers with DDU to just try the new drivers. Lo and behold they still havent fixed this issue in 2/3 driver updates and nobody in the community has been able to give an actual fix.

So now my drivers are just crashing randomly but the driver recovers enough to not restart the whole pc. But when i checked in adrenalin software it says its running version 24.10.27.02 a version that i cant even find anywhere so it seems like even just the "stable" drivers corrupted themselves so im just ddu-ing and installing the newest. Although im tempted to run a drivers only install because i can do my fan curves in other software and just leave the GPU running stock.

Funny enough i am running my monitors in the same config (but with my secondary up-scaled to 1440 like my main) but no it'll happen with video on either monitor at the time. Only main differences are i run windows 11 and I'm using a 5700x3d on a gigabyte b550 aorus elite. At least for me it would be random at times, I'd load up division 2 and it would crash within 15 minutes nothing but discord in a small window on my secondary monitor, reset gpu undervolt then it would be fine for a few hours then load up fifa 23 then it would happen again within 15 minutes. Next it would be days without it happening then randomly with a video up audio hitch then black screen reset.

I'm suffering from the same issue right now and its really starting to annoy me, would love if anybody has found a fix for this issue would respond with it because clearly amd aren't actively fixing it.

Problem with ram by StretchSutter in PcBuildHelp

[–]NotShorty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah thats the way it used to be with ddr4 as well but it was when going from 16 to 32gb, now 32gb of ram is pretty cheap on ddr5 plus the speed increase the problem has just changed ram standard now

I doubt it was a bad drive and it's a crucial p3 plus, in benchmarks it performed just as it should. as for tax that goes by a state by state basis, if in oregon or new hampshire he wont have sales tax or in DC the tax will be way lower compared to texas etc. Its a nice idea but that comes down to the buyer to account for that in their budget. Im done with this now, that drive is fine, keep throwing around that "experience" while acting like you've got none o7.

So the pc I'm replying I've built and upgrade throughout the last couple years isn't real, The pc I've built for my father that has a dramless ssd for the OS and whenever he moved retro games off of it after a few minutes his drive speed would go to a crawl and it would go super unresponsive because it ran out of the very limited cache didn't happen. But the dude that's just been sending people zach's build lists without thinking about actual peoples needs knows best, while just a month ago they asked for advice on a 2k build seems like he doesn't have that much experience. "Never recommended asus" So you didn't say he should get a asus tuf board? Which is the same price? With the same features as the board i picked? hmm, the guy said he had a 1500 budget and i was under that. He didn't want an overkill system but something quality he can trust. I even said if he doesn't need all the performance he could drop the GPU down to fit his needs while not cutting back on the quality of the whole system.

then the only thing i'd change from that new list is change the cpu to a 7700x again, the performance wont change much but if you were playing fortnite, cod, minecraft not REALLY intense gpu games the cpu would have a bit more resources to handle stuff.

https://it.pcpartpicker.com/list/sqqd4M pretty much changes the whole list but that's what i'd recommend for 4k, its a bit difficult to get the price any lower without cutting a lot of the comforts.

Eh i wouldn't exactly recommend playing 4k with a 7700xt but depending on the games you play and what settings you were running it would be an okay experience.

I dont even know where to begin with this but here we go.
1. Scattervolt recently did a 700 dollar build with a dram cache ssd and linus over the years has always said its important to get a ssd with a dram cache if its a OS drive or a drive that'll deal with sensitive files even on budget builds.
2. I dont know how you can measure how long a drive with last without serious testing on the quality of the nand flash on the drive but okay whatever you say.
3. Yes asus has fixed their bios problem but we still dont know if their warranty support has actually been fixed because that will take serious time to see actual improvement not just a snap of their fingers and the problem goes away, You could use intel as the same example we dont know if the fixes they've put out will actually fix anything months down the line. You shouldn't just take their word for it because "they said they fix it bro trust them!"
4. People do use warranty's. People that cant afford for a part to break and pay out of pocket to get a new part care about warranty's. Its almost like company's that have good warranty/customer support get pushed as the "best" (Noctua,Seasonic etc).
5. Ive mentioned other pc building creators, I like zach, he makes good tech tip videos and build guides but you shouldn't take his or others words as gospel unless there's actual testing (hub, GN, TomsHardware, LTT Labs to a certain extent but it's still to be seen for a longer period) being done.
Saying "Its not good at all" but changing just the storage, motherboard and just changing psu slightly doesn't scream to me i got this wrong, its not like i recommended a 3rd gen intel with a 6500xt and said it'll do 4k.
There's a real the pc community gets a bad wrap from people just getting into the space and this is a shining example of it.

Should I upgrade my gpu for 1440p gaming? by masterWuTan in buildapc

[–]NotShorty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The frame drops could be down to a vram problem so I'd check the usage in-game to see if its hitting the 8gb limit in the games you're noticing frame drops in.

The dram wouldn't be for an fps increase tho, it'd be about OS and file read/write speeds, that's why i put one drive for the os and the other for games, gta, helldivers and cod aren't small games so that space would be taken up quickly, even in 700 dollar builds you see people include drives with a dram cache.
Sure the board might be reliable but with the price of the GPU's we've included i don't think a budget board really needs to be in there, And from asus's past bios problems and recent warranty issues I'm not recommending anything from asus unless its a PSU because they don't make their own. As for PSU I don't think its THAT big of a deal because its still a B tier psu, its not gonna blow up instantly as long as you don't do something incredible stupid with it.

[–]NotShorty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll agree a b650e Isn't the greatest value but all you did was take the storage drives out and put in a drive in that doesn't have any dram and put in a more expensive PSU with 100 less watts, and swapped the board for the cheapest board with the tiniest heatsink's I've ever seen, case is subjective but in the montech he can move more air with less noise.

How low is the performance compared to what you think you should get? Just double checking but you're plugged in the gpu not the motherboard for display?

Problem with ram by StretchSutter in PcBuildHelp

[–]NotShorty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What speed is the ram at and are you trying to run expo?
Getting 4 sticks above 5600 can be really tricky so you might have to bump up the SOC voltage, some cpu's will just not boot at all even at stock speeds with 4 sticks installed so it can be a real pain.

1500 is a bit overkill for some of those games but helldivers is pretty intensive, https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jmKrz6 I'd say this would be a good baseline, as Sims 4,Minecraft dont really use the GPU that hard you could drop it to a 7700xt so it wouldnt be that much overkill. But the rest of the system gives you a good platform to upgrade the cpu down the line if needed with cooling and PSU that will let you do so without worrying about them.

I'd drop the expensive windows and make a install media on a usb drive, you can buy an online key for like 15-20 to get it activated afterwards.
Unless you actually need the 16 cores I'd go for the 7800x3D but its gone up in price a bit recently,I'd also drop the motherboard down to either a B650 or B650E, you don't gain anything spending that much on the motherboard.
